People drinking from 5 hours before a minutes silence.....could be an awkward 60 seconds. Remember him well from our early days watching northern....give him the ball 5 yards out and he scored every time !!!! Brilliant.

Perfectly observed mins silience as expected.
What a pathetic judgmental comment.
To imply people are incapable of being respectful after a few hours on the drink
Is quite frankly shameful.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen a minute silence disrupted before a rugby league match.

Lovely day anyway well staged by the club.

Rugby League is a very good sport for minute silences. Could have heard a pin drop at Odsal. I'm 23 so too young to remember these old players, however I have heard many stories from my Grandad who started watching in 1947 regarding the likes of Forsyth and Todd and the way he speaks about those players really shows me just how much they were loved and played well for Northern.

To be right, some people are indeed, incapable of respecting a silence imo, especially after a few bevvies and pretending that it isn't so helps no-one. Fortunately the vast majority of those aren't rugby fans, though I have to say that over the years I've heard a few bozos during silences at RL games, however few and far between. There was obvious potential for it to be spoiled but clearly they judged it right or got away with it (take your pick). Well deserved respect for the players.

Well I tend to think you know when people can no longer be trusted when they elect for a minute's applause instead, as is often the case in certain other sports.

That echoes my experience too. I have seen them disrupted at RL games but it's always fallen into one of three categories. 1) Children (forgivable), 2) The person coming out of the stand/loo who doesn't realise a silence has started and is gobbing off / singing (forgivable as long as you believe the mistake was genuine), 3) Drunken idiots at one of those games that is designed for non-regular fans who come along just for a session (Grand Final / Cup Final / Magic Weekend / Summer Bash etc).

Third one not forgivable, but those games tend to have a much larger contingent of non-RL fans, and whilst I won't pretend all RL fans are angels, I also don't think that's necessarily a coincidence. Alcohol + idiot is never a good sum.
