Future of SL : Sat Mar 17, 2012 1:15 am
Is anyone else worried about the future of super league?

NRL are looking at more stopages for more ad breaks, and more money for players, which means even more of a lure for the best English players.
The gap between top and bottom teams doesnt seem to be changing, and Im not sure if the standard has improved in super league at all.
Just a shift in dominant teams.

The quality of NRL still makes the majority of SL games look amateur.

The Rugby Football League are in the process of reviewing the video that you are referring to. We do not condone behaviour of this nature and have contacted the player’s employer, Hull F.C., who have confirmed that they are dealing with the incident under their club rules.

The NRL has around 100 of their trained players playing in other codes, SL has about 10.

Why didnt everyone care about the NRL while it was going through one of its most difficult periods?

Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

The NRL has a constant stream of talent coming through due to the size of the pool down under.

If super league lost its 30 best players I don't think it would be worth watching anymore.

Your job is to say to yourself on a job interview does the hiring manager likes me or not. If you aren't a particular manager's cup of tea, you haven't failed -- you've dodged a bullet.

Re: Future of SL : Sat Mar 17, 2012 8:35 am
Last night's results illustrate the issues the league is facing - the gap between the top 4 and the rest - 30+ point winning margins does the credibility of the no good.

Reduce the league to 10 teams playing each other three times.

Actually its the nature of the game, dont forget this Huddersfield side got drubbed by Wire in the playoffs.

If one team is on form, and one team not then big scores happen.

I think the RFL have tried to stem that tide by tinkering with the rules regarding kicks bouncing out and the additional time allowed to lay on puts the emphasis on defence again

Re: Future of SL : Sat Mar 17, 2012 10:19 am
I disagree with the gloom, I think the more of our SL players can get over to the NRL, in particular younger, England players the better the England national team will become and the the more positive press coverage RL gets in the naitonal papers. At the moment, our National team's inability to break the southern hold on the main trophies is the biggest problem for our game.

If we can get our team back on level with them the publicity will bring even more youngsters into the game thus filling the gaps and making SL more popular.

It's not rocket science.
