Some might look at this as being harsh but I think it's fair. When are the Rugby League going to stop persisting with this fantasy expansion. If it hasn't worked by now, it never will! I'm all for reaching out to a wider audience with our game but not at the expense of historical clubs in the homelands.

I only used the NRL thing because the types that normally claim the championship as entertaining start sentences with 'In myyy daaaaaay' and last saw top flight action when Featherstone had a decent team. 'The teams are too fit nowadays' and 'theres no breaks' are the usual excuses offered along with 'all one man rugby'...go and watch basketball or somethin then.
You're talking garbage man, a faster game doesn't automatically mean it's more exciting. Sheffield v Donny was exciting, even if it wasn't as high quality as a SL or NRL match. I've seen amateur games that have been just as exciting as Super League matches, a good game between two evenly matched teams is a good game at the end of the day whatever the standard. Obviously the higher the standard, the better the game is likely to be but that doesn't mean that there aren't exciting matches at any level.

The NRL teams generally play a less expansive style and put more emphasis on defence, so it's understandable for people to say that its more boring on the whole than Super League. That doesn't mean there aren't exciting matches. What I can't understand is why people see 'beating the Aussies' as the be-all and end-all. Get a grip.

hmm no it's not the be all and end all however in the NRL if you watch the construction of their set plays, the moves they put on. Even a try that's run in from 20 yards out is so well put together you sit back and think..wow. That to me is exciting Rugby League, league played at its finest
It takes a little extra to break down a defence. England were cut to ribbons on the edges because they couldn't deal with this, they don't face it in SL. We have pretty decent hookers and glorified centres playing at 6/7, good runners in broken play, the Aussies have much better halves.
Everybody's been heralding Saints' defence tonight and yes, it was quite an effort but let's be honest, Wigans attempts at moving a ball or putting runners on that looked likely to cause problems was laughable.

Some of the tries scored in the Donny match tonight were laughable from a defensive standpoint, absolutely terrible..I just fail to see how this is 'more exciting' than SL which apparantly is more exciting than the NRL. Not taking the mickey, i'd just love someone to point me towards the positives (obviously the scoreline held some interest otherwise i'd have turned it off with 20 to go). It's not just the pace of the game, I thought the teams were very negative too, hardly the fast flowing game i've been hearing goes down in the championship.

I think what he is trying to get at is the game itself was exciting - nothing to do with style, talent or standard of play. What Wes Hooligan is saying is that he could probably walk down to his local amateur club and enjoy a decent game of rugby, no matter how many mistakes are made or how the tries are scored.

What you are implying, on the other hand, is that only the top standard teams / matches are worth watching because you can't see past the overall standard of the game. If you did find yourself watching a lower level game, you'd probably find yourself picking holes in everything and generally just not enjoying it (as you found the game tonight).

I'm the same with soccer - I'll happily watch Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea etc, but Stoke v West Brom? Nah, its ok I'll give it a miss thanks. Rugby on the other hand, I will generally watch any standard or age class.

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity

Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!
