When the big clubs lose.... : Sun Apr 26, 2009 9:00 pm
why are we told 'its a bad game'.
This is what Sky Sports presenter came out with tonight when talking to Martin Offia when referring to Quins great win over Leeds. Maybe Leeds werent at their best but by all accounts Quins stopped them playing as they wanted and played very well themselves. Looked good tries by Quins on the TV. Offia wasnt even quick/smart enough to come up with a proper response either. If one of the top clubs dont win the GF then I guess we will be told the same rubbish.
While im at it, will someone get Offia off this programme before I put my foot through the tv screen :P

I was listening to Radio Leeds tonight and they were repeating the same excuses for the Rhinos that they used during Friday's commentary.

They lost to the Quins because:
Leeds had too many international players
Leeds had a busy Easter (whereas everybody else had....?)

If only they had to make the same excuses after the Grand Final.

Best thing to do is to put the sound on mute and enjoy it.
Another thing what bugs me is last week Cas add some thing like 8 players missing against Saints but people on Sky fogot to mention that if the boot was on the other foot thats all they would talk about.

Exactly!

The only extra game Leeds have had to worry about was gainst Manly. And Quins had an extra game agaisnt Manly too!

As for Martin Offiah, he's a classic expample of an outstanding former player who offers nothing useful as a pundit/commentator. There must be plenty of journeymen ex-players who could offer far more insightful and worthwhile comments, and I for one would rather hear them that Offiah.

Hmm while I agree with your point on this thread for the most part the Manly thing's a bad example.
It's all about conditioning and timing. Leeds had to come out the blocks fast due to this game whereas every year Saints aim to hit their straps about round 8 or 9

There is some truth in that but I`d say it was a bigger thing when the WCC was played before the season started and not, what was it, four matches in?

Fat blokes in the mud, flat caps, bogs that drain pi55 directly onto your boots - Now it's all 'Big Ask', 'Arm Wrestle', 'Collision' 'Contact' 'Facials' 'Upper Body Strength' 'Big Units' 'Scooting from Dummy Half' 'Energy Levels' 'Laying the Platform' ‘Middles’ and 'T-R-Y'. Let’s not forget resilience.

Offiah is as awful as a pundit as you can possibly be.

Yes, he's a legend and has a media profile from the dancing show but i could offer better comments on hockey, polo and loads of other sports I know nothing about. Its actually hard work listening to him
