Hi all, convert here! : Wed Mar 11, 2009 10:11 pm
I have just started playing league after 18 years of union!

I wasn't sure if this was the right place to post this thread but I was wondering if you could help me.

I am a Union Centre and I was wondering how greatly the positions differed? How do the centres operate what's there role etc.

I can also play wing or fullback but I kind of guessed these two would be fairly similar between codes

Cheers!

Didnt Andy Farrell who was a loose man or general pack player go into union and convert to centre? And are there not two types of centres in Union? If so which one was you?

Wing and full back are substantially different in RL. They both see the ball on a regular basis, and the full back sometimes runs with it....

Old habits die hard. Sorry!

Yh he did

You have inside and outside

Generally inside is bigger and more crash ball type player and outside is the more skill full and quick player who can hit the gaps created by the other backs or put his winger in.

I am an outside Centre

What are the roles of a Centre in league then?

Are they supposed to stand next to the winger and just put him in?

Outside centre. You may be suited to a position in the centre of the park. Asuming you have a good amoutn of size, you could probably fill in at Loose, provided your half backs have a good shoe on them.

Varies. You could do a Sinfield type role without the kicking. Lots of distribution and organising (you should have a good pass on you). Tackle your heart out in the middle.

I played 9 in RU for many years living down south. I got to uni and my passing from the deck led me to playing 9 in RL. I haven't looked back.

If you look like the typical union outside centre there's definitely a position for you in league, if you're not too fat maybe second row and if you're not quite 40 yet you could play prop. If you are both fat and old stick to union mate, in 10/15 years you could even make the front row!!

Outside centre in union is just the same as a centre in league, except that instead of lining up outside your inside centre, you will just stay inside your winger on the wing you are allocated to
