the SPARC report puts the figure @ 17,000...down from 30-40,000 in the 1990's
There is a new initiative and a NZRL employee dedicated to it...to get more kids playing RL in schools. Mind you, if the Union lot choke at the next RUWC, they won't have much trouble converting most of the adult population

the number of NZ eligible players in australia with NRL clubs, under 20s is through the roof. the game in new zealand isnt much of a deal. the Warriors have an Under 20s team, there is an Auckland team in the Premier League. there are loads more actual NZ NRL players now than in the 90s so the figures are clearly misleading.
Have you got a figure for that? Or at least an article anywhere that mentions it? That would be really useful to my study.

NFI.
if it was during the season there would be something in one of the magazines.
try emailing the nrl @ nrl.com or foxsports.
every NRL team is looking around NZ for players.
thats where the real stars are.
not just the warriors either.
if you want to try League unlimited there is a section on New Zealand RL there and im sure someone will be able to get proper figures for you.
theres also a section for each NRL club and im sure the warriors fans will have a good idea.

on last years figures between 77 - 93 NRL players were Kiwis.
not a bad figure, and ignores the numbers in the juniors.
then add the number in SL, and also in union.
the warriors have lost a tonne of players over the past 2 seasons.
indeed the best players coming through the NRL junior system now are either islanders or Kiwi kids.
