How is a British coach supposed to be any good?
Look at the system he grows up in!
He starts out his career as a kid playing footy, coaches by people that don't know how to coach kids.
As he moves through the grades, he never gets taught how to play the game properly.
So he breaks into the top grade in England and is earning big money now. He has never been taught how to play the game properly, and neither have most of his team mates. Its pretty much too late at this point, and he goes on to have a long career.
He then wants to become a coach so he joins a coaching staff in the UK, but he can only do the best with the knowledge he has of the game.
If that knowledge base was flawed to begin with, how is this bloke supposed to master things he doesn't even know exist?
For the same reason British players are not up to speed with the best in the world, so too are your coaches lacking.
And please, lets not start talking about the imported coaches you have. Tony Smith, Tony Rae, Shaun McRae......these are people that could not get a job back home and for good reason!
Then you get a guy like Brian Smith at Bradford for a short time, and he was so good his legacy at the club has only just ended!
British coaches don't learn the game of Rugby League, just like the players they once were, they learn the very basics, many of which are wrong, and thats all they know.
