if you really believe that the SL clubs raised their game to their best against Leigh then i'll have a pint of what you're on.

I think maybe... what he's trying to say is that the SL sides didn't underestimate Leigh as maybe they might have done pre challenge cup fixtures. I think that's fair. I think from what I have seen the SL sides haven't gone at any of these sides with half measures with maybe the exception of Salford against Bradford. Unless Hull KR have and convincingly won. Which might be the case considering what you did at our place.

Let's deal with the cup run first
They beat an injury ravaged Salford who lost Dobson and Sau in the first ten minutes of the game. Even then Salford had the game in the bag until BJB gifted Leigh the winning try.

They beat possibly the worst Wakefield team I've ever watched who at the time were in their worst form of the season and also beset by injuries to key players.

They ran Warrington close but we've learned since then that Warrington are imploding this season and are nowhere near their best.

I said before a ball was kicked at the beginning of the season that no Championship club would get promoted unless one of the SL clubs did a London and completely fell apart. Wakefield have done their best to fill that London role but still look too strong for the Championship clubs with only a sublime Bradford performance in the MPG offering any chance of an upset.

Short of a Perfect Storm to create a shock, Promotion via the M8s will be a two, three or even four year learning and strengthening curve for the Championship clubs.

Sadly it will have been deemed a failure and we'll see yet another change of format before then.

Part of the problem for Leigh is the unadulterated wank-fest by several of the Sky pundits and some pretend journo's on social media; couple that with the unfortunate attitude of some of their more vocal supporters (a small but loud minority) and their chippy coach and Chairman, and you have a perfect storm - every time they slip up, schadenfreude kicks in and people take pleasure in it. That's the way the world works these days - build something up, and you ask for it to be knocked down; I gather the modern parlance is 'haters gonna hate?'

For my part, I never bought the outpourings of orgasmic joy at their revolutionary, never seen before approach to the game; they play a fast, unstructured and at times grubby game that has been very successful against part-time opposition - it was never going to work against decent SL teams who play to a much more rigid, percentage structure and can shrug off the niggle and wind-up tactics, contain them and wear them down. A more experienced coach would have worked that out, but it seems that Paul Rowley believed his own hype and didn't change his approach for a better quality of opposition. I guess they'll make some changes in the off-season and good luck to them - if they can avoid losing their best players to SL teams, they'll be well-placed to continue building.

Re: Leigh : Mon Sep 21, 2015 7:03 pm
Hee hee you lot really are worried about us and our Derek ,keep going Derek your scaring the poop out of them.
Let's look what's he achieved over the last two season built our fan base up from 1300 to 4000 in the lower division may I add with no away support apart from Bradford who fans have loyally stuck with them even though they go bankrupt every season and have a coach they have dispited all season.

Brought in better quality players this season with more promised in the next month.

A style of play that got fans and press excited, darlings of the BBC with our cup run and massive media exposure record sponsorship into the club.
Now all our Derek wants is Leigh to have the same salary cap as our super league competitors what's wrong with that he wants to fund it he can afford and we pull in more crowds than some of the super league clubs so why can't he spend the same cap the only extra funding they get is the sky money.

It's been stated on here many times that a legal challenge in court would win as its a restriction of trade pure and simple its like saying to asda you can only spend 1 million on advertising but tesco can spend 1.8 million.

So keep up your hating were loving it,we will be back bigger and better next year the club learned a lot from these playoffs found were we need to strengthen and will.

Our Derek as plenty of bottles of water left :-)

Same as a few years ago when they were 'merely' one of the better teams in the Championship. Many of their fans were calling for his head then because he couldn't change tactics when things weren't working and they were getting regularly outsmarted in the play off games.

Their competition, their rules. Any threat to take it to court would simply result in a quiet word reminding them of that probably along with a threat of their own not allowing Leigh to play in their competition.
