Agree that they have got fans hooked on cheap/free tickets over the years and that isn't helping.

Also think they are going a bit too far with the 'tickets are selling out' stuff, I've seen a few social media comments where people are saying they thought there wasn't any good tickets left so didn't bother.

Definitely, yesterday they said category E seats at St James park were limited...but there were plenty of seats left in the upper tier...all 3 games today were marked as having low availability, but Warrington and headingley were only around 38% full...

People moaning about the ticket prices, but the cheapest ticket categories aren't even selling out, there was only 6k at headingley today, the £20 seating and standing areas hadnt sold out, tomorrow night in Doncaster, every ticket is £20.21...£2.21 concessions but it still won't sell out. The cheapest prices for most world cup games are cheaper than or similar to super League prices. You can't get to many top level sporting events, gigs, theatres etc for much lower prices than the rugby league world cup prices are...too many years of underselling ourselves via low ticket prices and Groupon codes etc have come back to bite us this year.

What’s the price for Old Trafford?

What were the prices for the euro 2020 final? 6 nations at Twickenham, cricket world cup final etc? If we want to be taken as a more serious sport on the international stage, higher prices sadly come with it

Will cut the organisers some slack in that originally the Scotland game was meant to be at a new stadium in Cumbria and the Australia game in Hull so a bigger geographical spread but a lots happened since that venue announcement.

Just hope the bad press doesn't start to build as it's hard to shake of a 'flop event' tag.

Wrong wrong wrong.

If we want to be taken seriously as a sport we need games to be played in full stadiums .

If there is something that says Mickey Mouse sport is then RL community talking about the greatest game , opportunity of a lifetime the best players in the world then all the games being in TV and the grounds being empty .

Showing a TV audience a full ground with great rugby will make people want to try it out and make advertisers think it is worthwhile.

Trying to compete on pricing for RU internationals who sell tickets on a corporate basis to hedge fund managers from the city of London is patently ridiculous .

I went to two games this weekend England v Samoa and Ireland v Jamaica. . 3 tickets at each game for me and the kids was over £200. I am lucky and can afford it but most RL would struggle with that.
Add on petrol and other costs and that is not a cheap few hours out .

Then asking those fans to pay that money for 30 plus games in 4 weeks what do you think is going to happen. I would travel to watch the rest of Irelands games and create some atmosphere but not at those prices when I add on the travel etc.. I would also go and see other more local games . If tickets were reasonable..

I am all for selling tickets based on grading prices and let those who can pay get the best seats but it is bonkers charging £35 each to sit in the rafters at the end of at St James park when there are 2000 empty seats Side on further down. From the point of view of the cameras having those seats full would have looked better on TV. Also for all those casual fans I met who came along and are not RL diehards it would have made their day out more enjoyable and more likely to convince them to come back.

You don’t build an audience by pricing people out from attending games

We had this sort of issue. A group of 6 of us decided to go to the Jamaica/Ireland game a couple of weeks a go. On the site it said "low availability". We went to buy terracing tickets and it kept coming back that none were available. As a die hard RL fan I was pretty confident this wasn't the case and persevered (we eventually had to buy individual tickets 6 times!!!) but I wonder how many non-RL fans gave up thinking it had virtually sold out.

We've gone bigger this World cup with more games and more games in the North of England than last time. Hopefully the overall attendance is bigger which will generate more revenue, but I'm disappointed we've gone backwards on a few basics. Playing vocals for Irelands anthem and not Jamaicas is borderline offensive than just looking amateurish. As my example above, the websites giving misleading info and I've found clunky and hard work getting tickets.

Re: The World Cup : Mon Oct 17, 2022 9:08 am
Rugby league fans really are ridiculous. On the one hand they say “these are the best players in the world” on the other hand they say “tickets should be dirt cheap to see the best players in the world” doesn’t add up really does it.
If we want to get away from this ‘traditional’ idea of being a working class sport of flat caps and whippets then we need to act like one. £25 -£30 for a ticket isn’t that expensive considering that’s what we pay for an ordinary game - I mean wire and FC fans have paid that to see some right s***t this season. And how many have paid about that to stand and get p*ssed wet through at the dive that is wakey.
So maybe £40-£50 to see some of the best players in the world is fair enough. And for the best seats in the house you pay more.
No some people can’t afford it- I can’t afford a Lamborghini or a flat in Mayfair or weekend at the Ritz Carlton.
