Not selecting worse players on the basis better quality players haven't produced the goods is the problem.

We invest in our young players, we invest in our coaches, we invest in our facilities, we do that even if it is at the expense of another small northern club spending on another hundred grand on another queensland cup player, or another 35 year old has been. We force clubs to make the best of what we have and not let them rely on other clubs or other countries or other leagues doing the hard work.

We don't know if different players would be any better or worse than the ones out there though.

What 'different' players?

Your argument is ridiculous. If we stopped selecting players that haven't beaten Australia or produced the goods, the quality of the team selected would rapidly decline as poorer quality players came in and copped even bigger beatings.

On the whole we just about select the best players we can, based on their performances over time in super league. If we select worse players on the basis the other ones have failed our chances go from 1 to 0.
