Re: The Magic Weekend 2010 : Sun May 09, 2010 1:27 pm
I don't see the issue with Edinburgh. The stadium's top notch, the city's beautiful and the accommodation isn't too expensive if you're willing to look around. There's ample space outside of the stadium to provide a great experience for fans who attend.

But the RFL have to make the event something a fan has to attend, something they don't want to miss out on especially when people are struggling for cash. They need to be critical of the selection of fixtures, the ticketing and marketing (maybe just one ticket for the entire weekend), the entertainment on show inside the ground and Sky's ability to broadcast all games live. I'd like to see more Players and Coaches available for signing sessions for the kids, maybe they could have a fans competition.

Maybe they could have those sides outside of Superleague having a 7's tournement on the pitches outside of the ground with the final played inside murrayfield with a Scotland Rep side involved. Could the National Rail Final be incorporated? Or could they even stage an international game at the end of the festival (Aus v NZ?).

All of these things will make him a cultural icon when his visa runs out and he is sent the way of his great grandparents....alas, not in chains this time.

Birmingham is a good central location but what is it like for an influx of people; hotels, camp sites ect?

Queen Victoria had the right idea about Birmingham.

Whenever the royal train passed through it she had her servants draw the curtains on her carriage so she wouldnt have to look at the place.

Sadly things haven't moved on a lot in poor old Brum. Some nice little bars down by the NIA and the canal and Broad st is sort of reasonable (and they have a Walkabout!!) but thats as good as it gets.

The best thing about Birmingham is the M40.. heading south.

Cardiff is still the best place for the superleague to host these 'magic' weekends

A weekend in Birmingham would be dubbed the 'Tragic' weekend very quickly. Its not suitable for Rugby League.

Trust your old mate Barry McKenzie on this one.

Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

My thoughts: Click here

Would be intrigued to see what people's thoughts, particularly the last bit. I feel it is something which can only benefit the event and get local schools and organisations involved.

Having the games in seperate stadiums defeats the object IMO. You can't easily watch all the games if you want.

Keep it in Cardiff, give it some years to grow. Bring back derbies. Get the clubs to market the tickets to their own fans more. Include the championship teams and have their games on the RU pitch outside. This would easily get another 10-15k to the event.

Bordeaux Stadium would be great for 2012. Chaban Delmas stadium is 33400 seats.
4% (per cent) of the benefit (tickets) for the Council. Gary Hetherington was interested in 2006 (25/7/2006) for an away game. I was present with my camera...Be sure that Bordeaux is the best stadium for the next Magic Week End
