Has anybody ever gained promotion to Super League by being handed a place?

Even when we we expanded to 14 clubs and stopped P&R it was the two Championship grand finalists that went up.

Gateshead, Paris and London (who finished 5 the league before), we're all handed a place in SL.

Widnes as well. They were the fifth placed team in the championship.

Paris weren’t promoted to Super League, as they took part in the first season of Super League.

True, but they were handed a SL place, as they didn't play RL before, and were only bought into existence to be in SL.

we didnt finish bottom and wasnt relegated, huddersfield finished bottom and were re-instated after being relegated and merged with sheffield

the club spiralled in to financial difficulties and went out of business. Hull Sharks closed and was taken over by the recently formed expansion team Gateshead Thunder at the end of 1999 (with the backing of the Super League).[9] The Association of Premiership Clubs blocked proposals for the newly merged company to enter a Hull-based team in the Northern Ford Premiership[10] and so Hull F.C. closed and Gateshead Thunder took over the traditional Hull F.C. identity in Super League and moved its home games to The Boulevard. Most of the Gateshead playing squad moved to Hull along with their Board

Some might look at this as being harsh but I think it's fair. When are the Rugby League going to stop persisting with this fantasy expansion. If it hasn't worked by now, it never will! I'm all for reaching out to a wider audience with our game but not at the expense of historical clubs in the homelands.

I think you'll find its more to do with how they get into SL then anything else (in my case anyway).

If they go up through the leagues rather Than just being handed a place
No one can really complain.
They should've been handed a place in SL two years ago. As it is they were made to start in League 1 and progress was put aside to appease morons, which may actually work in their favour as they now have a young, largely home-grown team which has played together against UK opposition for a number of years. But if ANYONE is complaining about Toulouse or claiming some sort of unfairness then frankly they are nothing more than bitter, sore losers who should be mocked and laughed at. They have literally started right at the bottom and done it themselves from scratch, as have Toronto.

we never went out of buisness, we were close to, but at the last moment, the merger happened and a new buisness was formed

we only applied for lower league status because we couldnt afford to stay in the superleague, but thanks to your chairman who put a block on that, gateshead moved south and the rest is history

no relegation, hull fc didnt close, both fc and gateshead had debts, gateshead rumoured to be about £700k and the rfl paid BOTH clubs to merge

Super League clubs yesterday gave their unanimous backing for a merger between Gateshead and Hull Sharks. The move brings to an end Super League rugby in Gateshead as the newly-formed club will play in Hull. The merger's acceptance means the new club will receive £1.25m over two years.

Super League issued a statement confirming the merger and stressing that the payment to the new club will satisfy the creditors of Hull and Gateshead. As a result of the merger, David Lloyd no longer has any involvement with or ownership of the company. The merged team will play Super League matches in Hull, initially at The Boulevard and then at the planned new stadium in the west of the city. The existing playing squad and administrative staff from Gateshead will transfer operations to Hull and join forces with the remaining players and staff there.Hull FC Est 1999

ive read that article, nowhere does it say hull fc went bust! the rfl paid both clubs £1.25m over 2 years to merge and the creditors were happy with that! otherwise we would have gone out of buisness and have to start from scratch

so we didnt go bust like you claimed!

going bust and merging are two different things

sorry to disappoint you! didnt go bust and didnt get relegated
