“You are playing a game of football this afternoon but more than that you are playing for England, and more even than that, you are playing for right versus wrong. You will win because you have to win. Don’t forget that message from home. England expects every one of you to do his duty.”

Re: The World Cup : Thu Nov 03, 2022 8:59 pm
I hope we can sell some tickets off the hype, this was the most attractive fixture in the group stage, and it didn't bring a crowd.

If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

Frederick Douglas

Great fun, Wheelchair RL.
I've known a lot of people in wheelchairs over the years, but I didn't know you could pull those skills off.

In last nights game that was the difference between the two sides, England had the wheelchair skills through Brown and Collins in attack whilst Australia was more about brute strength and heavy impacts.

Once again that fella Kyle Amor added to the excitement with his commentary on the actual game also explaining the rules in a very simple way.

Some of the newer commentators and pundits are showing the old guard up. Agree that Amor has been good, Vossy is a breath of fresh air and here in Hull we've had years of Paul Cooke's good insights in our local paper so good to see he's had a chance on the commentary.

Jonathan Davies needs to be retired, years since he played the game and never sounds like he is up to speed. Likewise Terry and Barry on SKY aren't with the times.

Australia's quarter final in 2013 only had 5k...so 8k is progress.....

Only kidding, that's a terrible crowd for a quarter final in a heartland town. A game that has no teams in this country sold out Wembley last week, tickets were all at least £80 a pop. Something has gone badly wrong with the marketing and venue choices of this world cup

Or it could just be that the general public find rugby league boring and inferior to other sports?

We've got five £25 adult tickets in the North Stand for the 'double header' at the Piedome. We're halfway between the touchdown (corner) flag and the posts, which is great value for money. Can't wait, should be a great day :)

Yep the 5k in 2013 was in Wrexham for Australia-USA as Wales completely flopped and spoilt the script of having a Quarter final at home.

Huddersfield may be the games birthplace and its a good ground but the Town just doesnt turn out for RL. Debate to be had if booking these big grounds is worth it. 8k in Craven Park, Salford, Halifax etc would look fuller for TV.
