If they make SL they can look at a new stadium, but why the love does a Championship club need more than a 7000 capacity? Not every new Championship team has to aim for SL in 3 years
im not saying they do need to be in SL in three years, but €12m is a large outlay for anyone on a new stadium, to only build one to 5-7k shows at least a strong possibility that 7k is towards the top end of not what a club will average but what they can get,
even if it takes 6 years or 9 years or even 12 years to get to SL, spending €12m on a stadium, then spending even more again to move to a bigger stadium after only a few years seems a waste of money
surely there is another stadium, already there they could use for a few years whilst getting their finances and off the field things like coaching and youth development in order, before then looking to SL and having the backing to make a run at it and have the ability to build the new stadium when they get in, like celtic have done,
im just cant see the logic of such a massive outlay on something you are expecting to be too big for in a few years anyway

I think the point is that this is a new stadium for Limerick FC
and everything else is an add on
It is believed that in addition to Limerick FC, a new rugby league club, Limerick Flame, which plans to enter a team in the British based Championship in 2010 is anxious to play out of a revamped stadium while the Munster Branch of the IRFU and local GAA authorities have apparently expressed enthusiasm for the idea of a 5,000 to 7,000 seat venue so close to the centre of the city.

Beat me to it.
I hope Smokey isn't suggesting that the rugby club are investing €12m on a new stadium?! I'm very much guessing they are going to just be tenants!
Definitely better to be tenants in a brand new small stadium than an old large stadium. Neither will get them into SL anyway. Might as well play in the best facilities to suit your means and move/expand later if need be.
but i would still expect limerick flame to be making some kind of contribution to the building of a privately financed stadium if they were expecting to be tennants from the off

Yes it's called rent. Why bankrupt the club with stupid supporter of expansion, with whom I disagree, ideas when they're brand new?
im not sure what you think i have proposed they do?
Well suggesting they as a brand new Championship 1 club should spend money they don't have on a say 12000 (or more?) seater stadium when the 5000-7000 capacity stadium the football club are building is easily suitable for a Championship side in either division, rather than them having to magic up millions and millions of pounds to build a SL standard stadium for a club in a league that averages about 1000

Yeah an Irish team suitable for SL now is just going to magic itself up There's no reason there couldn't be another Championship side for Ireland if someone's prepared to back one, but to refuse to support one side in case a better one comes along is ludicrous

what the hell are you banging on about? nobody has proposed any of this
im not sure what you think i have proposed they do?
simply that moving into a brand new stadium with only between 5-7k capacity isnt a particularly ambitous plan,
if their plan is to stay there whilst building towards SL and have a plan for an SL sized stadium in the future great,
if they dont, and havent thought passed the getting into NL2 part yet, then thats fine also, there is nothing wrong with them being an NL2/NL1 side,
they may not be however the best target for the RFL/RLIs irish focus
What's not ambitious about it? I'd say it is pretty ambitious to create a new professional club in a land where there has never been one, and in a brand new stadium.
You seem to be hung up on the capacity of the ground. They are a Championship club and will be one until at least 2015 years (they won't get in during 2012 that's for sure). Why would they need a bigger capacity than that? What would you class as ambitious yet feasible?
