i suppose another way of looking at it is, we have removed the high tackle, violent conduct, spear tackles, grapples and other serious offences from the list of penalties.

These could now be listed as "Violent and Dangerous Play". If one of these takes place then the referee stops the game. He calls over the offending player and captain, disciplines them how he sees fit, and then asks the team with the ball whether they would like to kick to touch, continue from where they are with another set of six, or kick for goal... like i said, these could be worth 3 points.

Penalties now result in a simple resetting of the tackle count or a straight hand over for obstruction or incorrect play the ball.

I think it's a nonsense that the same amount of yardage can be gained from a penalty for markers not being square and offside as can be from a serious act of thuggery.

winning like never before. decoys. mouse traps. chicken wings. lollie pops. shepperds. the crusher. grapples. big league. In 1935 The Dragon Slayers as they were known defeated Canterbury bulldogs 91-6, which is still the biggest win in the Club's History. In 1907, the St George district had a club in the Sydney rugby union competition. Interestingly, the team's area was referred to as the 'Illawarra suburbs'. A resolution to form a St George rugby league club was made at a local meeting held in early 1908, but the movement faltered and collapsed. St George, wearing the district colours of red and white, played in the NSWRL's Third Grade competition in 1910, and formed a President's Cup team in 1911. References were found at the time to district teams being called 'The Saints'.the perfect 11

That's an interesting point. On many occasions a penalty for offside, particularly for a team under pressure from an over ethusiastic defence possibly chasing the game, is a real "get out of jail" card for them.

Whilst there would be no real territorial advantage gained, there would be six more tackles given to the team with the ball for them to use. A lot would depend on whether the defence was fit enough to maintain the intensity in their defence for these extra six tackles.

The well drilled, defensively solid and fit sides would benefit from this rule but surely that's how it should be anyway?

i'm sorry, i have no idea what you're talking about.

i think the scoring team kicks/receives thing is another debate entirely.

What you are suggesting is a measure to encourage illegal play, that results in less attractive games to watch and games not flowing so much. You say you want games to flow more, yet you are proposing something that would mean games would not flow so much.

As for repeated offences, that is down to interpretation. Foul play is not being penalised appropriately in NRL and particularly SL currently, so I am sure a 5 min bin for repeated offences would be used sparingly.
and you might get profensional fouls. like ealy in the tackle count . the defence go's for strip . its a 6 again restart penalty . next tackle they go for the strip again . another 6 again restart penalty .big deal .the defence were only penalised by 1 tackle ?? if the defence keeps going for the strip .they will eventual will get a legal strip . but it could get very messy .with all these strips going on . stripathon  in super league do you have the one on one legal strip rule ?? something too consider

the ref can still use the send off if teams keep infringing like they do now

if teams keep giving the same penalty away the ref often warns the captain any more of that and im sending the next person to the sin bin

I see what you're getting at. Perhaps two of the same offence during the same set of six could be punishable with a sin-binning.

[quote="Jemaine Clement"] I understand what you're getting at.

But I think if the game were to become faster and more emphasis put on fitness then this would be a step forward for the sport.

some of the most enterprising play and skill is showcased when defences are tiring.

I think the tactic of teams committing a foul intentionally so their team can have a rest is something that we shouldn't accept. if the rules i'm talking about were put in place then teams would not intentionally give away penalties as there'd be no guarantee of a rest! All it would mean is that they'd have to make six more tackles.

The back to one would hammer tiring defences but surely this is a positive aspect of my idea? The incentive to be squeaky clean in all aspects of the game would still be there because if you're not then you're not going to get the ball.
quote] you want a end too end running game . with a few tweeks of this new rule and penalising system . thats what you could get . but if you bring in the rule where the scoring team kicks off at restart .you would get a fairer share of the ball.possesion . look what the dragons did . there opponents would not get the ball at all .thats why they brought in limited tackle count rule.cause it got boring too watch .cause the dragons were too good

Fredie for once in his entire RLfans life has raised something of a valid point.
However I don't think that would be the case unless the refs start blowing for near enough everything. You'd just have the same amount of penalties as now, just without all the kicking to touch.

Something just sprang to mind, people debating about tiring defences letting too many points through through not having time to set the line.
Most tries I reckon come off the back of a penalty at some point and a 30 yard punt so you'd probably need the tired defences to score the same amount of tries as now.
This could actually be one of the better RLfans debates of recent time, could the OP find some way of airing their opinions to the RFL? Could be something to consider properly
