Double Awards Joy for Wildcats
WAKEFIELD TRINITY WILDCATS are celebrating a superb double after claiming the first individual honours of engage Super League XIV.
Veteran Australian hooker Brad Drew was voted the official League Weekly engage Super League Player of the Month for February after four outstanding performances for his club.
All 14 engage Super League club coaches had their say on the month's top performer and Drew fought off stiff competition from fellow nominees Danny Tickle and Brett Hodgson.
The 33-year-old, who will now be presented with a trophy to mark his achievement, received a 9 out of 10 rating from League Weekly's match reporters in each of his four outings in February.
He was also named man of the match in his side's wins over Wigan Warriors and Salford City Reds.
Meanwhile, coach John Kear has been named League Weekly engage Super League Coach of the Month for February.
The Wildcats' defied pre-season predictions of doom by winning three of their four matches – their only defeat coming away from home at champions Leeds Rhinos.
Kear has united his squad following the tragic death of popular prop Adam Watene in pre-season and also started the campaign without eight first team regulars.
The Wildcats also have the most representatives in the official League Weekly engage Super League Team of the Month for February, with winger Dave Halley and makeshift half back Tony Martin included in the new monthly 'dream team' selection.
