Rugby League the Greatest Game of all!

Rugby League optomist

Northern Ireland home of the underdog and capital of losing when favourites.

Super league and TV question. : Tue Mar 31, 2009 6:39 pm
firstly can and should the SL split the rights to its games with another terrestrial channel (ITV, CH4??) so that they increase their possible audience nationally. also why doesnt the SL do a national TV ad like the NRL does annually down under to increase interest in the new season etc..... i feel that unless you are specifically looking for rugby league on tv in the UK then you arent going to find it or come across it. Sky did a reasonable job advertising the WCC but for weekly games ads are too few.

I really believe that someone like Channel 5 would do a half decent job of putting together a highlights show. Let's face it, half decent would still be better than the Super League show on BBC.

Something has to be sorted on terrestrial TV.

ITV or BBC would have to get it though as putting it on 5would be worse than we have now.

Who can honestly say they watch five that much in a week?

I'm yet to see any BBC trailers for the cup games this weekend - not expecting much but they certainly do it for everything else they have rights to, bigger or lesser events than one of the oldest cup comps in the country.

Yes good point but it is still quite a rubbish channel. As you have said though BBC make a right hash of it.

I think a good move for Sky would be to move a game to a Monday night as long as they spread it around the teams and never took the pi$$ out of a certain set of fans. Keeping it between local teams would mean it would be doable. I think the move would work as the football is no longer on Monday nights.

I'm not too sure, it seems on most other nights other than Thursday which NL1 games seem to feature on.

No different to a Thursday slot surely and the more nights we can get with no competition the better wouldn't you agree.

As it is I don't mind what day it is as most of our games of late mean a day booked off work so it wouldn't be out of the norm.

There you go. the BBC, a well respected and very professional organisation have continually made a pig's ear of rugby league, in particular The Super League Show. Although it's done in a small studio, the coverage Five give to NFL and Baseball is good. They have a presenter who not only has a passion for the sport, but he also knows what he's talking about. The 'pundit' is someone who knows how to work in front of the cameras whilst not boring the viewer or over complicating the game in question.

To be honest quite a few clubs don't take that many supporters anywa. However I'm not keen on Monday night games at all.
