Kevin Walters Super Coach : Sun Apr 05, 2009 9:54 pm
After having read all the posts on here about Kevin Walters being sacked i feel that someone should come to his defence.
A superb fightback today against the mighty Bradford Bulls.
With the forwards that Bradford have and their talismanic Aussie import Steve ' Beaver' Menzies to provide inspiration and leadership Catalans were up against a strong team.
Catalns may have had a difficult start to the season but Walters has not given up. Signing the contreversial Greg BIrd and making him captain now seems to be a masterstroke.
How many teams could have come back from 20 points down at half time to score 40 points and win a game.
You also need to bear in mind the Bulls excellent form this season particualrly in grinding out a win against the Catalans in the SL game sand a hard fought draw against SL most improved team in HKR
It is clear that his half time team talk galvanised his team and led them to play controlled but attacking rugby.
Bradford on the other hand would have been confident with their lead and would certainly have been buoyed by their coaches advice to play conservatively and for the percentages as the points were surely in the bag.
The leadership and motivation by Walters must surely mark him out as a coach for the future and hopefully the Catalans will be able to move on from here.
As for the Bulls they can feel positive they contributed to a very good game of RL and can take heart from their first half performance against Castleford and the Catalans. They will surely be able to move onwards and up wards from here with their young but talented British Coach rather than some second rate Aussie.
I am confident that once games of RL are played over 40 or 70 minutes that we will see the best of the Bulls and that Mc Namara will be able to lead them in the direction they deserve to go.
