Gleeson to Wigan : Sun Apr 05, 2009 9:58 pm
Seems like a done deal now.

The Sun reckon it's £100k plus Richie Mathers. Not a bad deal considering he cost Warrington £200k when he signed...

Love this. Wigan sign a player who has been booted out of two major clubs and pay him a fortune. His best days are behind him and the pies tie him up for years (like Fielden).

Wigan really are a shambles.

Mathers confidence is shot to pieces and playing for such a clueless coach wont help. Maybe he thinks Tony Smith can help him out.

why? signing an england international Centre? really shambolic :?

id possibly say its more shambolic on wires behalf, if mathers is included in this deal then it is a very good deal indeed for wigan!

If he were just an "england international centre" I wouldn't worry. It's the "booted out of two major SL clubs" that's the problem.

The last thing Wigan need is disunity.

We can all agree that Mathers is shot.

Gleeson was going anyway for free

The thing that clinches it for me is Gleeson's wonga. He wouldn't sign for the Goons for less than he's on at da Wire, now would he. (Although he'll no doubt kiss the badge when he scores his first try like all sell outs do in football)

This means, like mentioned with Fielden, they are ploughing a considerable amount of cap wonga into underperforming superstars.

Does it not strike anyone as surprising that Leeds Rhinocerus' haven't dipped their hoofs into the water? They are down a centre, down an expensive player in Eastwood rightly not being allowed to set foot in the country. They also have a far better set of squad players they could have part ex'd, yet weren't interested in the slightest.

If Gleeson goes and produces some magical form and helps Wigan to improve and even win something, it will be a good move. If he plays like he has recently it'll be another shocking decision.

Gleesons been fantastic recently when he's not been shoved to 6.
I'm gutted to be losing him, just hope the board have an adequate replacement which Paul Johnson..isnt.
I'm also disappointed that after playing well Riley will be shafted again in favour of Mathers.
Disappointing deal all round for mine, something tells me its some sort of clash with Smith or maybe the bad egg wasnt Briers all along?
