Reduction to 10? : Tue Sep 06, 2011 1:33 pm
Has it been announced yet that the interchange rule is to be reduced to 10?

I believe the players are of the understanding it is going to be but I haven't heard anything concrete yet from the RFL?

It would change quite a lot IMO, forwards would have to play more minutes, hookers would be required to do 80mins more regular and I suppose some players will be forced to retire earlier.

What is it now? 12? I don't think it will be that much of a difference.

We should really go back to 4 subs and no interchanges IMO. Cut the fatties out of league.

The NRL reduced it and it has made a big difference by all accounts. Tactics have to be adjusted and as you say the bigger guys will struggle. Players like Feka would be less saught after while 80 minute pack players would be able to earn their worth.

I agree with the sentiment. I've thought that 6 interchanges is plenty. Bring more of a fatigue factor in.

When I had too much time on my hands, I came up with a whole new 3rd competition to replace the repeat fixtures. It involved rule variations of the following
5m offside rule with an focus on a quick PTB.
2 subs with 3/4 interchanges.
10 players of the match squad must be british and under 27.
Option for the NRC winners and NL1 league champs to join. Group games followed by semis and finals.

My idea was that the 5m rule would help bring back some skills the likes of Goulding and Gregory used to have. It would also allow us to play at pace with a quick PTB but against a properly formed defence.

"I'm sorry, but I would hope that we would beat Cas with a 1 day turnaround."

An arrogant Wigan fan a few days before we stuffed them 18-4 at the JJB.

12!

My impression is that our rules will change when the RLIF change them. However, the Australians don't seem to care about anything outside of their own country so I think they are quite happy to let everything slide by.

Long story short, with their attitude nothing will get changed any time soon. And I include a two referee system and making the corner post void with the number of interchanges.

NRL expansion? Sometime soon, maybe......

Re: Reduction to 10? : Wed Sep 07, 2011 12:26 am
No rule should be changed in any comp without ratification by the RLIF and agreement to adopt across all RL. It's a joke that the same game is being played to different rules in different countries.

I hadn't heard about this, but I think it would be an excellent idea - just tidies up the game a little. Can we reduce the number of times 'water carriers' come on the pitch?!

No no no!

If rugby league truly is the greatest game, why do so many of its followers feel the need to suggest changing the rules?!
