There some teams who do live within their means, but that's not what Steph Curry was implying. He reckons that the Cap is holding the game back and I pointed out that of the 28 sides in the top tiers of the 2 comps, maybe 3 or possibly 4 are breaking even or making a small profit.
SBW has been signed for an eye-watering amount. If there were 27 other club owners who can afford £2,600,000 a year on one player, then yeah, i'd be up for a bigger or no cap, but the reality is that they're predominantly making a loss under their current cap rules and there is no evidence that paying players from the same player pool more money will change that.

The NRL, who lead the game in terms of attendance and revenues have a cap that is AU $9.1 million. That's £4,800,000. SBW is on over 54% of the NRL cap for an entire squad......how many NRL clubs are demanding a raised cap?

Brian Noble likes spending other peoples money, which Brian McDermott's player development track record is nothing to shout about either, but I suspect both like to tell Mr Argyle what he likes to hear

But then again. Steph Curry is a troll who like his alter-ego's simply wants to poke fun at heartland sides and by claiming Wakefield are holding the game back, he's getting his jollies

How much profit do the owners of Man City make? How much profit does Robert kraft make on the patriots? How much profit does pat Riley make on Miami heat. Zilch.

Profit has nothing to do with it.

My point is, the people with money aren’t allowed to spend it because London broncos and Wakefield will get upset it’s not fair.

That is the reason our sport has gone backwards and is now an embarrassment. It’s basic business that to grow you have to spend. But it’s ok though because Wakefield didn’t get relegated so the cap is working

The Salary Cap hinders rich clubs from spending on bigger names. Therefore the bigger names don’t come over here, the bigger names we do have leave for NRL/Union, the sponsors look at our ever decreasing quality game and don’t get on board, lack of sponsors means lack of investment, lack of investment would eventually lead to the rich clubs possibly losing their rich owners or higher incomes due to lack of interest in the game and the game will die.

Get this decades-out-of-date Salary Cap lifted, considerably!

More money means more investment, better players coming over, better players staying here, players who are playing for the top sides now would be playing lower down SL therefore the mean quality of the league will rise, better quality will see more investment, more investment will attract new investors to clubs and new sponsors to clubs and the league and to players too, better standard and more money in the game will attracts the TV companies and from then on you don’t look back.

City are now the fifth most profitable club in world football.

https://gameofthepeople.com/2019/05/30/ ... all-clubs/

City have been self sufficient for around five years and now spend the money they make themselves rather than the owner’s money.

Sheikh Mansour will almost certainly be taking a cut of those profits.

When did the RFL mention anything like this Lebron ? RL clubs can't be spending money they have not got, look what it did to Wigan in their most successful period in the 90's (had to sell their ground to pay off outstanding debts) despite huge crowds, and big name sponsors.

The Premier league is so far ahead of the championship because of the vast wealth inequality between the leagues. In fact, even the premier league is skewed heavily in favour of the clubs with unlimited cash. They also have the problem that only about a quarter of the teams in that league have a chance at winning the title. That's not as big a problem for them because it boosts all the clubs in the league financially. Most of the teams have no hope of competing but they have other enticements such as European football and domestic competitions. Plus they are the countries number one sport.

The trouble with certain fans with your argument is that it's elitist nonsense and a catch-22 for you. Your teams already sit at the top end of the competition, but when top clubs such as Leeds or Wigan to name a couple over recent years have struggled. It's that the competition is degrading in standards somehow. When teams that have traditionally struggled pull themselves up to be competitive and challenge the 'top' clubs, instead of seeing that as a positive thing it's somehow because the general quality is now rubbish or we can't spend more when we can.

For SL to survive and move forward the league needs to be competitive. Nobody will invest into a sport with only four or five teams battering everyone else every week. That's why we're still struggling even now. These things take time. I'd rather watch a SL that throws together more competitive matches over watching a few clubs play champagne rugby over inferior opposition. While what we have now isn't perfect, the 'lower' teams are dragging themselves up and becoming more competitive. Not every match can be a SOO banger because these things take time. The marquee signings are a perfect solution, as it stands, to attract that bit of talent that's floating around.
