I've eaten in Cinnamon Lounge a few times with no complaints (including on a New Year's Eve a couple of years ago).

I've only visited Bombay 8 once (so far) and wouldn't put anyone off that, it was midweek but still very busy which must say something for it's appeal / popularity.

There's a club in Culcheth?! You mean an actual club rather than a social club? I'll be the taxi so transport isn't an issue.
I appreciate all the recommendations. Probably will plump for the Raj due to location on this occasion but will then try Cinnamon Lounge next time I park up at Golden Sq, and Bombay8 when going straight back to Southport. I am with Lefty on the "curry as go to cuisine" is concerned.
Should anyone be stuck in Birkdale I would recommend Bombay Belussi (but avoid busy times) as their food is exceptional, but they do try and cram too many people in!

Whole heartily agree with this - Bombay 8 is top notch.
