We were a mediocre team that fluked our way to finals...luckily there were worse teams than us which allowed us to get there.

Re: Smith Out : Mon Mar 20, 2017 8:24 am
Having watched the Wigan game out of the country and watched in disbelief at our total lack of enthusiasm to compete I thought the Leigh game would provide a crumb of comfort as we had the use of Hilly. How wrong was that, I had shifted my negative policy at this time because the coaches and the positive people said don't worry we have returning players who will help, how wrong are they?

Like many having watched this team and others for many years it is as plain as day that Smith cannot motivate the players into playing for him any more!

What's more the players are making it very clear that they are unwilling to play for him. Players taking lines into blind alleys and the half backs taking a tackle on the last play are symptomatic of this! The last two games have been riddled with these plays.

Our players are doing to Smith what Leicester players did to Ranieri

What ever needs to be done needs to be done very very quickly to salvage anything this year.

Remember the rumoured issues that we knew nothing with quality players leaving, well its going to happen again with the way Smith is treating one of our best prospects. The team are not happy about it.

Two questions

1 - What would it take for Moran to sack Smith

or more likely (but still unlikely)

2 - What would it take for Smith to resign

"The team are not happy about it"...
What's your evidence on this remark?

The evidence is from one of the players in the starting 17 and before you ask "no I wont name him on here" as it betrays a very close confidence.

On Demetriou, I wonder whether this headline is ironic:

or whether Demetriou is actually regarded as a huge name in coaching down under, as he's only been doing it a few years but has already won titles at different levels and was assistant at the Cowboys when they won the Grand Final a couple of years ago.

Demetriou would seem to be a viable target, in that he ticks certain boxes... As we have already established that there arent a dirth of available coaches in the UK. Top NRL coaches arent probably going to want to come over here........ so were looking for a good up and coming coach in touch with the modern game.

He seems to have had a decent grounding in Australia.... He would bring a fresh outlook, new training and tactics, a good knowledge of the NRL to help with recruitment of players. It certainly looks like the right kind of appointment... Out with the old and in with the new.

That argument would make more sense if we had been a mediocre team that fluked their way to the Challenge Cup final. But we also made the Grand Final, by topping the league and beating St Helens in the playoffs.

We are rubbish now but we didn't fluke our way to finals last season. In all competitions our record was won 26 drawn 1 lost 10.

Last season's problems were us being a strong, consistent team that couldn't get over the line in finals which is like Bradford in the early years of Bullmania, or Saints when they were losing repeated Grand Finals to Leeds and Wigan.

What he said. Whether the LLS is 'prestigious' or not is neither here not there, it's tough to win and you need to be consistently good to pull it off. Quite what is stopping the team gelling this year (outside of the Brisbane performance) is difficult to fathom. Why should they suddnly 'not want to play' for Tony Smith?

Seemed to be quite well thought of as a player, by fans of different teams and other players.
