I think you need a history lesson mate. 2020 was his first full season and he was very good helping us to the LLS and a GF appearance. He played 2021 with a shoulder injury that needed an op and, as you say, was generally "pants". This season he's been outstanding and the form 7 in Superleague.
I make that 2 out of the 3 seasons good with one outstanding so far and 1 poor season when he played injured. Hardly the last 3 seasons "pants" as you claim. In fact, he hasn't even completed 3 full seasons yet.
Ask any Wigan supporter would they have the 2022 version of Williams back at the expense of the 2022 version of Smith and you'll have an answer worth listening to.
