He left 6 weeks ago. You can’t be blaming him for the games he weren’t there.

The 4 teams you’ve mentioned are far more lucrative than Warrington.

And so you aim towards the sky,
And you'll rise high today,
Fly away, Far away,
Far from pain....

Good point, the 6 weeks prior to his departure he picked up a win 3 round before sacking, the third win from 13 games.

I accept that they are lucrative, but are those 4 clubs going to give him the trajectory to get another NRL title, or would he be better to come to the (easier, as Aussies see it, rightly in my opinion), gather some momentum and wait for the right NRL job while being paid handsomely and competing for trophies.

No you are incorrect... 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013 and 2012, that's 10 seasons. So 2 Challenge Cups in 2012 and 2019, and a League Leaders Shield is still a trophy and a difficult task to achieve.

Are we supposed to expect every Grand Final to be easy? The point of it being the Grand Final is that it's the 2 best teams, so we aren't always going to win.

We have won 40% of our Finals appearances which is competitive. And we have won 6 trophies since Smith came in. We didn't even win one in the Super League era before that. Averaging a trophy roughly every 2 seasons since Smith. That's definitely not underachieving.

I said last 10 seasons, that includes this one where we win nowt. We have won 0% of 4 grand finals. We have won 0% of the last 3 playoff games. Of course we have under achieved and I suspect most on here will agree that we have. But we can disagree :)

Re: Powell OUT : Tue Jul 19, 2022 9:30 pm
I started this thread during the home game against Leeds. My post was a knee-jerk reaction to a truly awful display. I've watched with interest the subsequent posts and I'm closing it with a number of final observations.
1. In pre-season it was obvious to all that we needed prop forwards. Instead we released Chris Hill. Maybe he had the mother of all offers to join the Giants. I have no idea, but I do know that I would have negotiated very strongly to keep him.
2. We do have some promising youngsters coming through the Academy. I think they would need encouragement from the coaches and fellow players. I find it totally reprehensible that Daryl Powell would choose to publicly denounce Riley Dean, not once but twice. We have plenty of "senior" players more deserving of a dressing-down.
3. Mike Cooper - what a player he has been for us. I have no idea whether he was a "bad apple". It's been suggested that he was more interested in his clothing business. Again I have no idea, but you'd need to sell a lot of hats to compensate for his salary as a rugby league player.
4. Defence. I recognise that Daryl Powell has a reputation for favouring attacking teams but the total collapse of our defensive capabilities under Steve Price takes some understanding.
5. Attack. The kicking game has been dreadful - I don't think that's too strong. It wasn't that good last year under Lee Briers but he would seem to be doing okay listening to the Wigan fans.
6. This thread shows that Daryl Powell has some supporters. I don't understand this myself based on this season's performances.Nor do I share the view that next season promises better - why would it as most of the players available will be the self-same that have proven to be so disappointing this year?
7. I was six or seven what I first went to Wilderspool. It was 1964 or 1965. So I've some pretty awful displays in the interim. Memory fades but I well remember the 0 - 50 defeat to Salford. In more recent times, I don't recall ever seeing a team put out by Tony Smith or Steve Price that simply gave up. I saw that under Paul Cullen (Castleford away and home) and this year too.

Here's to next season............

Absolutely. I remember Lefty comparing the misfiring Wire team of early season to Man Utd, in that we had expensively assembled "stars" who seemed to have downed tools.

I heartily agreed at the time, and the challenge for Powell and Ten Hag is the same - unify the dressing room, get the smiles back on players faces and help them enjoy themselves again.
