I was looking forward to Powell coming in as much as anyone and supportive of the squad needing overhauling, but this is shambolic and it is scandalous how the heart is getting ripped out of the club.
The king has no new clothes he is in the altogether but and had been truly found out.
Perhaps rather than believing that he had improved clubs we should have been looking at how the clubs went once he left! How many trophies did Leeds win once he’d gone? Where has the unfancied Lee Radford got Castleford to after Powell left not withstanding the fact that Powell brought his leaders with him.
The bad apples may have gone, but they have been replaced with lemons.

Re: Powell OUT : Fri Jul 22, 2022 10:10 pm
When he was appointed I said he needed time and backing fully, and if I was proved wrong then so be it. After the defeats earlier in the season I was still proudly backing him, the culture needed changing I thought, its all on the players and their attitudes.

I'd resigned myself to this year being the old cliched "transition" year, where we'd just make the play offs or thereabouts, but with the group we had ,and Powells own additions made , it would be clear progress was being made while at the same time lacking consistency to challenge for silverware.

But whats been served up, I think I've finally cracked. To say I'm fully backing him now would be me just saving face. It simply is atrocious what we have become this year. We were all for a rebuild, but this load of garbage week after week? Even with new additions next year, would he genuinely turn it around? I don't think so anymore, it just ain't working. There aren't any green shoots of improvement, its just getting worse.

Despite what others say, I do think we are seriously in the relegation mire. Tonight was the game where a two points by any means necessary would have just about saw us home. Our fixtures from here on in are grim, one of them being Toulouse at which I'm utterly dreading.

Anyway, Come on The Wire

Happy clappers still there queuing for selfies and autographs and people were getting called an embarrassment if they dared question the performance.

I just walked on by as I don’t think they were even worth a boo.

Possibly, but the players I mentioned appear to have their own view on things (I'm being polite) ... Will Powelly be able to get them 'on side' ... not convinced tbh

No idea. With the massive upheaval, it's hard to tell. I would have expected though a kick on after the Cats game and it's not happened, so serious questions have to be asked. A culture change such as this was never going to be straight forward. I didn't see the game, just listened to it on the radio, but it sounds like there were some poor individual errors which never helps. I thought he was the right man, he might well be if we stay up and he leads an upturn next season, but we'll never know if he goes.

Ettinghausen's gone ice skatin'

Re: Powell OUT : Fri Jul 22, 2022 11:05 pm
Ok so Powell wants rid of bad apples and wants leaders and winners. His main guys are the terrible Matautia and the abomination that is Oliver Holmes. A winner is distraught by loss….see Michael Monaghan being in a foul mood for a week after one. Holmes is a social media buffoon, backing up his atrocious displays with utter banalities after another embarrassing defeat. If this is the culture Powell wants then he has got it all wrong. His stubbornness not to see what a disaster Holmes and the ever frustrating ‘peanut’ are is damning.

It is clear the damage to any future playing atmosphere is already done. Has to go and now, Powell is a dreadful signing.

And Oliver Holmes was picked ahead of a future England captain tonight and Wrench replaced by a very mediocre SL player (who did his best in fairness).

Change the culture? These are his players now. Players he’s brought in himself, handed new contracts to, or committed to keeping at the club next season. Out of the most recent line ups, there’s only been around two or three players playing in the 17 who will be here next year.

All these supposed ‘bad eggs’ have gone. What’s the excuse for the likes of the undroppable Holmes and Mata’Utia who have been up there with some of the worst performers of the season?

How long does he hide behind this apparent ‘culture’ issue and we actually look at his failings in the coaching, tactical and selection departments?

Are we not in danger of being duped a little here and in actual fact our problems run a little deeper than just culture and Powell is actually culpable somewhere along the line as well?
