Re: This Warrington Team : Mon Aug 22, 2011 5:53 pm
Everybody is making fun of people who have their doubts about the current Warrington team but it will only take 1 or 2 defeats and on this forum there will be a lot of critical discussion about the failings of our team. If we lose to Wigan next match and then end up either losing the Grand Final to Wigan or being put out of the playoffs by Saints or Hudds (perfectly possible especially with no Westwood and Morley) then this forum will be full of

- the back line is the slowest we have had for years - no strike threat, no pace
- David Solomonas weight
- Jon Clarke not good enough at this level
- Richie Myler ain't a Super League halfback in any era
- Atkins is overrated and not the player we thought he was
- Some of Smith's selections in the big games were wrong

There will also be a lot of Wire fans panicking about the same things that Wigan and Saints fans have been telling us all year - we have an ageing squad and this year was a now or never year, if we ended up trophyless for the first time since 2008 then there will be panic on here that we might have missed the boat.

The nightmare scenario for us is Wigan winning the CC and Saints winning the SL GF, then we will have Wigan and Saints fans crowing at us on here about our bubble having burst and the Widnes fans will have made their way on by then laughing at our continued mediocrity and telling tales of when they beat Canberra in 1989.

This away win in Catalan could well be the best one of the season when you consider the players missing.

I said this on Saturday night, given the heat, the players we had missing, they could have gone 4th if they had won and they were at near full strength. In addition our key player had come back from a a four week lay off.

Obviously one win doesn't a Hub cap make but if we do win the league then I think we will look back at Saturdays win and see how much of a big win it was.

All good points apart from the reference to Widnes. Even if Wire win the hubcap and GF itself Comics' supporters will rubbish it in comparison to their 'hurtful' WCC against Canberra. Wire were simply lucky it happened the year before the mighty Comics were rightfully restored to SL.

Didn't William Webb Ellis pick up the ball and run, someone should really tell Rugby Union.

i think we'll be ok sally.
-back line is awesome and definitely not slow with king, atkins and j monas with bridge who is no slouch.
-i'm going down the selections and have just realized that your being sarcastic.

We have a great chance. I think with morley and westwood in our side, then we'd have one hell of a chance but
we still have quality all over the park and it would be great to silence some of the pies and stains.

I enjoy your posts Sally but you intrigue me as a Wire fan, if you indeed are (no slur intended just genuine enquiry). I'm interested as to why you seem to have so much of a downer on fellow Wire fans' opinions on this forum. When you speak of them as you do are you not considering yourself as part of that number? Or in some way different? I mean we are all Wire fans and we all use this forum so what gives with the sweeping statement?

You seem to have a bit of an insurance policy going wherein you attempt to predict a course of speculative reactions arising from an presently indeterminable outcome. I'm genuinely interested as to why you do that.
