Why?

Most on here have stated the Grand Final is the main event, its the one we want more then anything.

We are enjoying coming top of the league, whats bloody wrong with that?

Nothing.

What a lot of you are doing, though, is acting like that's the only one that matters, almost pretending that it's more important than the Grand Final.

It isn't.

I'm assured he can snort a line of coke the size of a Mecca dauber though.

you haven't won the league. You've finished the regular season in first position, in readiness for the playoffs, which form part of the Super League competition. In order to 'win the league', you have to reach, and then win, the Grand Final.

Don't you wire fans know anything?

Either way, it's great achievement and well done. The playoff games should throw up plenty classics. Hope you handle them better than you have done in previous seasons, or else you won't be doing yourselves justice.

Of course we have won the league - we have finished top after the final round of league matches. We are not champions, hopefully that is still to come. It may seem a small thing to fans of wigan, Leeds, Saints or Bradford to finish the regular season on top, but for fans of a club that hasn't managed to finish top for over 30 years it is some acheivement and should quite rightly be celebrated.

ROBINSON wrote:
To be fair, if my team had a playoff record like Warringtons, I don't think I'd be confident either...

And to be fair we have never had a squad as capable as we have now, nor finished in such a beneficial league position.

We can't expect Robinson or any other non-Wire to read every thread on this board. If he did he will have seen many posters who big-up the Challenge Cup as a great thing, others who knock it, others who big-up the 'hubcap' and others who don't rate it, still yet others - including one current thread - debating whether the play-offs are a good idea or not.

Robinson has simply found one of these clusters of opinion and focussed on it. To accuse Wire fans of all thinking that way is nonsense. Perhaps I should refresh your memory of earlier this season when a Pie started a thread to the effect that being top of the league was 'Wigan's rightful place'. Should I assume that is the view of all Pies? And I've lost count of the number of times I've pointed out that Wire don't really have a bad record IN the play-offs - our bad record is that we've hardly ever got to the play-offs!

Can you link me to this "clusters of opinion"

Yet to see it.

Cheers.

Winning one game out of the three or four times you've been in them is pretty bad! I'm pretty certain you'll continue your season of ending hoodoos though.

First time in play-offs lost to Wigan away - hardly a surprise back then.
Second time lost to Hull FC at home - that was a poor result and you'd have backed Wire to win
Third time beat Leeds away ( surprisingly good result ) and lost to Bulls away ( expected result though we pushed them close )
Fourth time lost to Saints away ( a mild suprise but still during our 'losing streak' v Saints ) then lost to Giants at home ( a poor result given the season's achievments ).

I reckon that's really just two losses that could be described as poor performances by Wire in the playoffs. Hardly the dreadful record people keep bringing up.

Before anyone has a go I repeat that our record is poor insofar as reaching the play-offs at all is concerned.
