Well I have to agree with Morrisey, your defence of Powell is quite frankly all over the place and contradictory at times. When this is pointed you become overly defensive and insulting....are you sure you're not Daryl Powell?

I only insult when someone has insulted me or tried to make out that I'm an idiot...and if they do, they get it both barrels and I will not make any apology for that.

Some of my defence of Powell will seem contradictory at times because I'm having to debate on many different fronts with different posters. And I'm having to do this because no-one else is sticking up for him despite 50% of people backing him.

The truth is, there is no black and white with this, and as the debate unfurls, there will be contradictions as posters take on board other comments and alter their stance including myself.

It's worth mentioning too, that although I'm behind Powell, I agree with many sentiments on the Powell out side too and this will cause contradiction.

Its clearer to debate the point and let people judge for themselves. It doesn't need anyone to dip in and make casual generalisations. If you or anyone else thinks I've contradicted myself, fair play, but prove it.

Hmmm ok GazWire. Here's one for starters, you said that part of the problem for Powell was that he inherited a squad was perhaps a little long in the tooth.

Since inheriting that squad, he has extended Ratchford's contract despite it being clear that he's a busted flush, and has signed four aging, albeit decent (on paper) props. He also persists in playing Matautia (31) over Wrench.

Irrespective of the playing abilities of the players concerned this clearly shows either Powell doesn't feel the age of the squad is an issue or, as people have reasonably opined, he seems increasingly desperate and erratic in his approach.

This is a very good point. I have Powell doubts now because he is saying the same things after each match about our inability to cope with the pressure. (Pressure of playing Hull KR at home  being the last case). He even acknowledged he is saying the same things in the last interview. Its his job to fix this and he hasn't. I ak beginning to wonder if he can't.

I have yet to hear any coach, who's team is losing, produce an after-match interview that satisfies the fans.
The same criticism were thrown at Cullen, Smith, Price and now Powell and of course it is every coach in virtually all sports.
If Powell did have the answer he would do it. If he was totally honest he might say ... "Some of our more experienced players and our youngsters too are not as good as we thought and the Coaching Team are unable to improve our defence and our fans don't help"
That would go down very badly.

I personally never expect anything from the after-match interviews or the match previews they are lovely when things are going well but so painful to watch when losing. Unless you enjoy watching a man struggling (and I don't) I think it's best to give them a miss.

Although it was against a much depleted HKR ,the Wire played some good rugby until HKR came back into the game . When they got within touching distance our bottle went & the mistakes & penalties crept in & let HKR overrun us. Yes ,we threw it away. Confidence & viable game plans are the issues.
As for the Hull game ,somebody mentioned , the biggest hope that night was that it didn't go into golden point ,that was a turgid affair contested by two bad teams.

I've already corrected myself with the 'long in tooth' and stated it wasnt the best description, or words to that effect. I should have said 'players who'd been at our club for medium to long term'.

I'm sorry, but I'm not accepting a sanctimonious hmmm from yourself - from somebody who hasn't misworded something - but someone who has, a few times, misinterpreted and twisted posts to suit their own agenda. You've done this twice since the weekend and I've highlighted it.

I'm beginning to feel about as popular as Mike Cooper at a Haliwell Jones team bonding session.

I'll move on. I hope you are right and Powell is the man for the job; I'd much rather be posting on here about free flowing rugby and our GF prospects.

Join the club, I'm probably about as popular as a fart in a spacesuit at the mo.

There’s a difference between a “we know what kind of team we have” and hanging out kids 6 weeks after they last featured.

You’re right, you can’t get the post match interview right. But you can get it wrong.

Btw. I probably shouldn't say this at this moment in time in this debate. But I actually have a lot of time for your posts - extremely articulate and always an interesting/good point to be made...apart from the long in the tooth one lol.

I'm going to take a backseat on this debate as it's quite bloody knackering! What I will say is that, whilst I have backed Powell and still do; I also agree with many many points made against him and funnily enough points made against my points too. It would be boring if we were all on one side of the debate.

Peace to all.

I guess my point was that he seems unable to correct the performance issue he cites so regularly. I am wondering why this will be resolved for next season and I am a Powell supporter.
