I must say ,though ,that this is getting as drawn out as the Sculthorpe fiasco.

The amount of time it took for Danny to agree terms with us was absolutely shocking.

I'm sure Williams is headed to Warrington, but I think that statement is a bit daft. Wigan's owners are very wealthy. Ken Davy could easily fund it as well, Leeds could at the drop of a hat, but again their commitment to matching that kind of spending when the rest of their team is pants is the question. Saints are another club that could easily spend as much on Williams if we wanted to. He's just not a priority with us having an international 6 and a very promising 7 already and no back row, centre or fullback for next year. Half the clubs in SL could spend that much on a player if they wanted to. Most are ruled out as he wouldn't sign for them.

I think the Williams saga has always been a straight shot between Wire and Wigan. And he's chosen you because the offer is higher financially and he'll see you as a better chance of trophies as you have a stronger squad currently.

Where's the announcement by the way? Duckie and yourself confirmed it two weeks ago? Is shifting Austin so you can fit him in this year the issue?

Duckie called in nearly 4 weeks ago. The day after our challenge cup exit to Cas. Williams 3 year deal was agreed then.
Got some shat about it, but when have I never.
It’s this interim period that seems to be the headache I would guess. Tbh, I have a feeling Wire and Williams have just been stalling with the likelihood of the WC not happening, to which, Williams could have an extended vacation into preseason throughout his partners pregnancy.

Possibly. But I'm sure Warrington would prefer he played some rugby this year. You don't want another Inglis situation where it takes him two months to get match fit then ends up getting injured because he hasn't played in 12 months. Even if it's just a few hand picked games for Widnes or someone like that?

I'll ask again, why would Warrington (assuming he signs for us) agree to play Williams in the Championship?

Yeah I'd love him risking a long term injury in somebody else's cause! Wrap him in cotton wool, let him train with us then hopefully get a short term deal back end. I can't see the world Cup going ahead and if that's the case he doesn't need a gig elsewhere I don't think.

Remember when we signed Gleeson. He was banned when we signed him and couldn't play till the start of the next season. Come the start of the next season, he was about the fittest player in the team, and he hit the ground running in the same or even better form he'd been in at the end of his Saints days.

Still won feck all with us, mind, but you couldn't fault the way he was prepared to start his gig with us.

The kid’s a rugby player, I think it would be a bad move all round not having him play till next February. He’s had a pretty crap time of it recently, he needs to play a bit of rugby, hopefully with us, but somewhere

I think there’s only about 11 weeks left in the season anyway. It’ll make no difference to his ability if he played or didn’t. It’s not like he’d been out for 2 years.

Perhaps the exchange rate is playing some part in this . The £ is not far off being 2 $AU.
