I think he is far to small and weak. He almost has the physique of a 15 year old boy... he certainly will not succeed if he doesn't bulk up... i think his size is one of the reasons he doesn't take on the line.. what's the point in trying to burst through if the first person you come up against is going to smash you into the ground... we have already seen that he hasn't got the elusiveness of a tomkins.. he also doesn't appear to have fantastic ball skills.. he has pace.. so now he needs power and lots of it.
I am expecting him to be bulking up considerably over the next 12 months.... they should make him go the gym with Ryan Atkins and give him some of what he eats.
I heard a story that Myler had a go at Tony Smith publicly after your Challenge Cup semi-final win. He was unhappy about only being brought on when he considered the game to be already won. There was something on the Hull forum recently about Warrington accepting a bid for him but apparently Myler didn't want to move to Hull for travel reason's.
This may be total rubbish but it's what I heard.
The thing with Richie is he's not a creative player, he's more of a Danny McGuire opportunist type player who's quick and backs up any breaks. I wonder if Smith has considered switching him to stand off in a similar role to McGuire at Leeds.
Richie Myler was never ready to take the step up and decided that the money was too good to turn down. Even at Salford we could see that he was far from the finished article. Personally... I felt his weaknesses were going to get found out when he moved, and I think that has been the case. We honestly couldn't believe our luck when Warrington came in with the offer they did. It allowed us to move forward. We signed Daniel Holdsworth who has been amazing and looks the complete player.... this enabled us to sign players like Luke Patten... and a number of others have followed.
Back to Myler... He's a support player primarily. He hasn't got the game at the moment to be creative as a scrum half. Compare him to Sam Tomkins at Wigan... They are a million miles apart. Tomkins creates and supports... Myler doesn't create too much. At Salford he stood out due to the players around him... He played for England when he was the star of the show at The Willows... so played mostly on confidence. At Warrington... the fact that he's not getting it all his own way is knocking him and his form has suffered.
As it stands... you took a huge gamble paying what you did for him... and I still feel he's going to be a bit of a flop right now. His best move for him would have been to stay put for another 2-3 years... gain the experience... and then move. As it stands... he's moved too soon and unless he takes the advice being given to him and deals with the disappointments... then he's not going to move forward. I understand that he has been complaining that he isn't happy at Warrington... This says it all for me. He made his bed so perhaps should lie in it... He will come out of this a stronger character and perhaps a better player if he does.
You had the mercurial Ratchford to take over from him as well.

I Disagree.Rob Burrow is 5'5 and 10'6 Stone, regarded as one of the best in the game at scrum half and an international. Lets use him as a comparable.
Richie Myler, Games 20, Carries 230, Tackles 238, Tries 15, assists 12 Rob Burrow, Games 18, Carries 253, Tackles 198, Tries 5, Assists 7.
Everyone will say Rob Burrow takes on the line more, is stronger in defence, can create more tries. Please look at the stats first eh??? Yes Burrows done more carries, but theres not much in it.
I think weve got one of the brightest young players in the game, stats say it all.

Burrow hasn't been anywhere near his best this season in all honesty (bad inury i think has effected his game).. But the burrow of last season (and many seasons before) would regularly break through the defensive line... something which myler doesn't do.
You can wave stats around all you want.... here's a stat for you... smith has dropped myler for not being good enough.

Smith didnt drop him because hes not good enough, Smith dropped him tactically to accommodate players he thought would have a better approach to the gameplan he implemented, and it worked. Smith played Myler in what at the time was a VERY crucial match against Wigan away, or did you forget that??? He doesnt overnight be a player who can be good enough and then cant be. Coaches use tactics, thats why theyre employed.
If he wasnt good enough, Smith wouldnt have signed him.
No doubt you'll have a different opinion, about Myler not being up to standard,so we will agree to disagree. If you want a cheeky side bet of say a tenner, il happily back myler to play in 90% of next seasons games, injury dependent.

What you reckon?
i reckon that there's no way I am betting on a player playing or not.
for whatever reason smith suddenly decided to drop myler and now appears to have frozen him out.
Yes he scores tries... but as a half-back he doesn't really offer much with the ball in hand... well i dont see it anyway.... I will be honest... if smith decided to ship him out tomorrow i wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
I hope he comes good and turns out to be a fantastic signing.... but for that to happen i think he has to become alot stronger.. he HAS to add more to his game than support play.
Is he a good organiser - I havent seen it yet Does he have a good kicking game - No... infact its bloody awful Is he elusive enough to break the line - He doesnt seem to be Does he have great ball skills - again I havent seen them. Does he break the line with his strength and speed (like eastmond... and to an extent burrow) - again its a no
add to this the fact that he has been taken out of the team for being a defensive weak link and its obvious he has alot of improving to do.
