The bedwetting and handwringing over the Asiata tackle which was above the knee of a running player is ridiculous. This is the game of RL.
It's the nature of the tackle rather than the location that makes it so dangerous. If he made those tackles in the stomach, he'd be sent off. If he made them on the chest, he'd be sent off. So why is he allowed to make them on the knee joint, which is what he's targeting?
As with all these things you find it minor/easily justifiable purely because it's Saints that kicked off about it. If Mata'utia, Lees or Knowles started throwing their shoulder through the knees of Wrench and Thewlis and ended their careers, you'd flip your opinion like a coin. If they're saying the tackling technique is fine, imagine if Sam Kasiano used it? There wouldn't be a knee joint left to put back together. Asiata can tackle like that if he used his hands or arms and wrapped them, sure. It's the reckless throwing of his body weight through the joint with his shoulder that makes it unacceptable from a risk perspective.
