The outcome has been good. There are 2 major trophies every season and if you win one of them, it has been a good season in the context of history. For some clubs like Halifax, Sheffield Eagles, Catalans, their cup wins are iconic seasons, highlights in their history.

I guess the question that is unsettling Wire fans is, was that Cup win a nice highlight along the journey to us being the best team in SL, or was it just a brief diversion from us being in a frustrating plateau.

The analogy here is Man Utd in Ferguson's early days vs United under Van Gaal/Mourinho. In Ferguson's early days, they picked up an FA Cup and European Cup Winners' Cup while Fergie was slowly assembling a squad which was set to dominate. They weren't quite there in the league at the time but you could see something special was building. When they won the FA Cup under Van Gaal and Europa League under Mourinho, it was like...yes, fair enough, but are we really gaining ground on City/Chelsea? At the moment we're like a Van Gaal/Mourinho United with a trophy, rather than early Ferguson.

Not really manure got rid of van gaal after he won the fa Cup based on their league performances got rid of mourinio n moyes based on their league performances....so completely different we have a coach whose style or rugby is basic and we cannot get the team diingbthe basics.

Thats a fair analogy although I dont think the outcome has been good enough at all. The cup win avoids the season being classed as an unmitigated disaster but but hardly good. We are not building like an early SAF United, we are stagnant.

No the analogy only works if we get rid of price. The cup wins for van gaal and mourhinio did not save their jobs did they nor were they counted as a successful season which we are saying we had as we won the cc. Our performances and league position are terrible and would earn the coach the sack at man United.
