Excited to see this Ashton kid. I think he could be the breakout star of next season. It could well be that Widdop getting injured is a blessing for Warrington as I doubt you'd have played Ashton if he was fit.

As a Saints fan I'm obviously hoping he has a major deficiency like Kevin Penny had that gave him enormous comedy value, but as a fan of the sport we need more stars in the game and hopefully he becomes one.

The positives from the Salford game are mostly related to the players on the periphery (Ashton, Burrell, Walker and to an extent Johnson). Together with the signing of Latu things are looking a little more positive.

We can only hope that the deficiencies in the style of play are being addressed (there was little evidence last Thursday). Playing Ratchford at halfback, in the absence of Widdop, rather than Patton is a step in the right direction.

In that case why make a tackle at all in a friendly, it was no different than any other tackle. Check out the Salford 2nd try, he plainly backs out of it.

Getting a defensive structure to complete that tackle is very different than throwing yourself into a desperate tackle and heightened unnecessary risk.

6 mins 50 seconds in. Ashton busts a gut to make a tackle, Charnley does what he can, Gelling could have made quite a simple tackle but doesn’t. Nothing desperate about it, it was incredibly poor, friendly or not.

Pathetic. Either a make a point without a slur on us, or just don't bother.

Poor vs risk.

If you have full confidence and know you will win the game...what is the point of it?

Gelling cannot just stand there and watch. He was at fault for the first try by shooting out of the line when there was no need to.
Price will have words with him for giving two scores away in that manner.

If you have the ability...you can watch players pass you to score...this can be included in preparation.
You don't have to take an injury risk at every incident....you reassess risk on game importance and the differing strength of the opponent.
Being the biggest, fittest and holding nerve....WINS.

Wire were going to win vs Salford without getting out of 2nd gear...that's what they did. Job done with a turnstile open.

That is a display of a championship winning team....you remove those flaws and it would have been a cricket score...but did we need one?

Utter nonsense. But it's to be expected.

He's a Saints fan who has spent the off season on RedVee. Enough said.
