Re: The Salford match : Sun Aug 16, 2015 4:02 pm
Big chance missed last week. Put that game to bed, result this week is less important, as you wouldn't expect to win away to a SL club.

That said, nature of some of the tries was very disappointing. 5 or 6 people walking in untouched. Defence wide has gone to pot. Pownall should be in, and Spencer and / or Acton should come in to give more energy to the pack. How long is Hopkins out for?

Re: The Salford match : Sun Aug 16, 2015 4:06 pm
I'm wondering which is the harder defeat to "take" - to lose from a winning position at home or to be steamrollered away?

As for this game, I felt McNally got his try in the 1st half (Higson's and Ryan's far more doubtful) but that is water under the bridge now.

Again many rugby sins were committed but coming back from 22-0 down was always going to be a big ask. We had our purple patch, our attacking play was good but again the defence and the game management are things that need building up.

Next week will be very, very interesting.

You suffered with exactly what I posted here last week. Which was your ability to play a different game plan and adapt when things don't go your way. Your team is excellent at playing broken-play and 'desperation' RL. Not many better. It's been enough to carry you through the Championship but you'll need to have more brains when up against SL opposition when it counts. Or know how to grind out a result when it matters. It's all a learning curve I suppose and beating SL opposition in the cup earlier in the season probably did you no good in the long run. Winning one-off games can bring a false sense of security under these circumstances and I think you can be forgiven for having high hopes going into the 8's.

I'm sure the last two games will bring lessons for the team and you need to be careful not to drop down the gears when you play other Championship sides. Remembering that they've also learned valuable lessons playing SL opposition. You can't afford a slip-up against fellow Championship opposition if you have designs on that important one-off game.

As for today, Salford are strong at home with a pretty much full strength side in comparison to last time you played us. When Chase performs, it doesn't really matter who plays against us. Your forwards couldn't get the better of Salfords for pretty much the full game, and along with Dobson, Chase managed the game in a better fashion.

Chin-up fellas and lasses. Long way to go yet.

What's really pathetic is coming on here after they have lost to have a gloat. Your existence must be pretty limited if this is how you get your jollies. Off you pop back under your stone and leave these folks in peace

Pretty much spot on for me. Might have been a different game had we scored next at 22-12 but not to be. Pick ourselves up and go again next week.
