Blimey! The whole incident was dangerous, even looking at both the still and the motion clips.
Well i hope they read it as the same as when Mata’utia tackled Matt Parcell in the CC, when he never landed on his head either, and got a 4 match ban.
The two incidents had one major difference, Mata'utia drove Parcell into the ground with some force and it was clearly head/neck head first, the disciplinary committee clearly has no option under its on-field sentencing guidelines but to cite that as either grade E or grade F, they chose grade E and gave him the minimum 4-game ban. Luke Briscoe was found guilty of a smilar spear tackle in 2017, again it was classed as a Grade E and he was given a 5-game ban
This incident won't come under the category of a spear tackle as that specifically includes driving the man into the ground head or neck first. It will presumably be classed as a dangerous throw, which usually comes between categories B and D, although it could at a pinch stretch to category E if they decide he "threw the player into the ground".
Therer are very specific categories, with specific penalties, for each class of offence, which of course doesn't stop fans trying to claim bias against their team by pointing out offences affecting their own players which brought about a different ban. There is always of course going to be a degree of subjectivity when deciding which category and degree of seriousness to apply, but if you follow the disciplinary process closely, and with an unbiased eye, there is actually far more consistency than a lot of fans tend to believe.
