I would normally steer clear of footballing matters on here but feel this is a communication issue also so I will clarify the situation if I may.
I can state at this time that no deal has been done for Sam with Wigan Warriors or anyone else.
I spoke at length with Our Football Director Derek Beaumont this morning who has today prepared a statement on this matter which I believe will be included in Thursdays Journal and other official club media streams later in the week, however I can communicate to our fans that this is simply speculation at this stage.
Obviously I am privy to the agenda for Thursday nights BOD meeting of which one of the items is to discuss two bids of which we are currently in receipt of for Sam Hopkins one of which I can confirm is from Wigan Warriors.
I would also state that Sam has no release clause in his contract for this season and while Leigh Centurions will not stand in the way of a talented young player any deal done will be in the best interests of both Sam and Leigh Centurions RL Club.
One thing is for sure the success of Chris Hill at Warrington and now Sam is a clear indicator of the importance of our community's amateur clubs and demonstrates why we must do anything we can going forward to support our amateur partners in any way we can as the towns professional club.
Finally to put this into perspective as a foot note I would hasten to add this is merely speculation by the Wigan Observer in the same way the Leigh Reporter could speculate that Mr Wane could be on his way to NZ Warriors I suppose????
