JUNIOR SCHOOLS RUGBY : Thu May 21, 2009 3:49 pm  

Anyone looking for some live rugby league action tonight then get down to the Miners at Twist Lane to watch 8 of our local schools displaying their rugby league talents. It all starts at 6pm with St.Pauls v Sacred Heart Leigh, then Lowton west v Newton west Park, followed by St.Josephs v XII Apsotles, finishing with the top 2 play-off between Leigh C of E and St.Peters for the Kirkhall cup.

St Peters beat St.Josephs last week in the John Woods Trophy (the knockout competition) where I witnessed some very entertaining rugby from both sides (St.Peters coached by Andy Collier ex Leigh and Widnes). Also, I believe that Gary Disley (ex Salford) is involved with the coaching of Leigh C of E. Promises to be a great match.

Good Luck to all concerned and lets hope the weather stays dry for them.

Congratulations to St.Peters on achieving the "double" last night.

I think St.Joes beat XII Apostles and Sacred Heart beat St.Pauls in the remaining matches.

For me it wasnt about winning and losing but 8 of our local schools teams entertaining us and getting enjoyment out of playing rugby.

Well done to the organisers,teachers,referees and volunteers.

woh woh there calm down.it was a fantastic night of junior school rugby league all teams and teachers to be commended.

my lad was not to disheartened at losing with lowton west as they had won the TAG TOURNEMENT in front of the queen and he scored a couple of trys on the lsv the home of his beloved centurions.

It's not about the result at that age anyroad, just a case of developing their skills and, most of all, enjoying their rugby.
