Re: Josh Charnley : Sat Jun 25, 2022 1:28 pm
The press release indicates that there are two contracts in place, one for the remainder of this season and the other the two year deal for the following two seasons. Reading between the lines it looks like we had him lined up for next season, probably to replace Inu, but, due to the fact that Warrington were prepared to release him early that we have then taken the plunge to get him in for the remainder of this season.

For my money he is very much the type of player we need going forward for next year but will be a really useful addition for this season. It will be interesting to see how Lam fits him in. I'm guessing Inu or Ferguson might be moved inside to centre to accommodate Charnley on the wing.

seems bit of a waste for this year.can only play wing as can inu and ferguson would sooner have spent on half back cover

How is education supposed to make me feel smarter? Besides, every time I learn something new, it pushes some old stuff out of my brain. Remember when I took that home winemaking course, and I forgot how to drive?

Are you controlling the purse strings? Maybe we've got him early on the cheap for this season?

I agree, like most of us on this site, that what we want, what we really really want, is a class addition at half back. I wouldn't bet against it still happening. I don't think Charnley is the big signing that was mooted to be coming by those supposedly in the know.

Like I indicated, I think his signing was planned for next season but we moved for the remainder of this year when Warrington made him available immediately. I get the feeling that this was not the original plan.

DB is like a kid in the sweet shop at the moment when it comes to new signings. He's not only got the taste for it but more particularly, he's got the dosh for it.

Re: Josh Charnley : Sat Jun 25, 2022 3:21 pm
At four years younger, Josh might just ring the knell for "the smiling assassin", especially as the former's English and can kick, errm, to boot.

Jy & Kieran are now even further down the pecking order and may have played their last games for Leigh. Jy would be "open-armed" at The Bulls (if DB wants to save a bit for a rainy day) as would Dixon at Broncos were he to manage to "consciously uncouple".

Is somebody going to start a "Squad for 2023" thread?

First game was in 1967, and have been hooked since day 1. Now live in Vancouver, Canada but follow our team any way I can.

Re: Josh Charnley : Sat Jun 25, 2022 5:12 pm
A class signing for next season and a bonus “loan” for this. When you look at our team, style of play and where we have the most “senior in years” players, it is in our back line, on the wing. Those wingers are called on, are willing, and do, take the ball into contact with the opposing teams many times a game early in the tackle count. It not unusual in the modern game, but what is different is the way ours take it straight to the opposing forwards, time and time again, causing the opposing pack to tire early. This calls for big, fast, strong wingers, and put extra stresses on their bodies. Josh fits right into that style and we now have an even stronger, top quality back line this season, regardless of injuries and/or resting of players.
Was he essential this season, probably not, but like Jack says, this is likely a top class addition that came with an incentive to bring over early (hence the loan aspect).
Welcome Josh. Wear the shirt with pride mate.

Which would be very harsh on chamberlain who has surprised me this season, and in all honesty done very little wrong

Totally agreed. I think Chamberlain has been very impressive and has been a real find.
