Highlights of 2022 : Sat Dec 31, 2022 11:49 am
The club has posted a thread “highlights of 2022(in fact they’ve posted highlights of 2023 but I’m sure they’ll correct that)”. Got me thinking. I suppose the highlight would be the 2nd half against Sheffield at Ebbsfleet. Having said that a pithy tweeter would then add Low light 1st half against Sheffield at Ebbsfleet. In the spirit of balance and in our usual positive way what are other posters highlights and lowlights. Obviously staying up with the coach/squad we had at start of season has to be a positive but also to get into that state is a negative. Dan Coates 2nd (or 3rd) kick at the sticks against Widnes sticks in my mind as a low light. Macani stepping up his performance levels mid season a positive. Volume of Skolars players recruited exceeded our ability to even publicise the fact they had joined and often left - what was all that about? The sheer volume of poor performances and hapless structure early season a low point. Friday game against Newcastle - toilet. Davis and Walker coming back a positive. Eccles stepping up a big positive. (Although note JCs assertion seemingly supported by the club that a full time coach was required) Although objectively our gates have been low and not in line with targets they appear to be back from the precipice we saw in 2021 (some time I thought there were more friends and family than paying fans) so that is kind of a positive although we now rattle round a 3/4 empty stadium - how do we square that circle. Seeing photos on Broncos Twitter feed of training which seemed to be players exercising on the clubhouse floor was not cause for celebration. I thought our social media fan engagement really stepped up when that guy from Roar (Tom) got involved- I wonder if we’ve retained him for 2023. Generally the low lights are easier to spot and I’m concerned about how much we have learned because our recruitment seems sluggish again (although our retention has been much better) but have there been other positives?
