Nigel Woods on Sky Sports News this morning
http://www1.skysports.com/rugby-league/news/15323/9053493/rfl-chief-executive-nigel-wood-determined-to-build-on-success-of-hosting-2013-world-cup

"There are meetings on Monday on issues such as sponsorship, which will hopefully result in some good news for the sport.

"Also, one of the actions this week is to resolve the future of London Broncos. There is a lot of goodwill towards that club and they've got a very committed owner.

"The RFL are supporting the people who are interested in promoting rugby league in London as much as we can."

Good article ... http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/leag ... 2yl5q.html

The bit that made me smile - 'However, many in Australia would question the damage to the game's credibility without a team based in London and it is understood Smith and NRL game development manager Andrew Hill met with Broncos chief executive Gus Mackay 10 days ago.'

I bet that was an interesting meeting, the NRL representatives thinking wtf, London is doomed.

Would have been nice to read that they were going to help fund the Bronsos.

It underlines the fact that if a team in London is to ever make progress it cannot be under the ownership of a man who treats it as a `hobby` (yes I know he has wasted millions, but he should have been more savvy) and that proper `professional` management is required; not under the guidance of the current CEO who is totally out of his depth and clueless. The current ownership and management team have to go.

But the question that needs to be answered are those who run The RFL any better?

Radical thought(?)which has been discussed previously: give an NRL licence to London. Although a logistical nightmare, it would draw in the Aussie/NZ community much more than Superleague. It would attract the better English players as well as top Aussie stars. Also, NRL would probably give more support for publicity in the lead up to London's participation than the RFL have ever done.

Radical, but not even the NRL has sufficient cash to pay for the sort of travelling budget you'd need. Sadly.

Unless some sort of fantastically rich white knight is about to ride out of the trees and pump a LOT of money into London, I'm afraid that the very best outcome likely would be for the RFL and other clubs to agree to put just enough money into London to allow the club to nomadically stagger on for another year on a 40% playing budget with zero infrastructure, thus allowing the better planning of a different league structure in 2015. However, I think even that is unlikely, as very few SL clubs would be willing to dip into their own pockets (as they'd see it), to subsidise London (or indeed anyone - altruism and the bigger picture aren't often concepts which get a hearing in RL boardrooms).

The only non-white-knight option now would be for SKY to call in Big Nigel and tell him outright that losing London will reduce the TV deal by significantly more than a 14th of the overall price. However, earlier this year, I heard definitely Carney and possibly Stevo utter - on sky - the view that London had failed, and it was time to move on, so I don't see SKY as riding to the rescue either.

Obviously I'm hoping someone's going to surprise me, but I fear this is the end for the Broncos. It's a real shame.
