Second half certainly- first half was as bad as I’ve seen all season!
First half was a disgrace. Sheffield have a number of good players but we had nothing going forward whilst they offloaded with abandon and looked dangerous all the time. We also made mistakes at important times.
Eccles made some changes at half time and we immediately looked more positive and quicker going forward, we also threw the ball around. It seemed to me like players like Curran, Parata, Leyland and Lovell stepped up a bit. I remain of the view that Davis adds some vim to our attack and I think he played his part as well. Albert had his most effective game. I’m a bit surprised that Sheffield didnt score once second half - they sort of capitulated but a good win for us. This is definitely a better side than at the start of the season. I do however think our kicking game is poor. As a kicker from the tee Leyland is doing OK but in open play and drop outs I don’t think he has much distance. I wonder if Mockedrike who has a cannon but no finesse might be a better option for the latter. Sheffield kicks in the first half were always dangerous by way of contrast and led to a number of tries if I recollect correctly.
Just a word for Ebbsfleet. It’s a really old school ground and it feels like it’s situated at the very end of civilisation with wind turbines, salt marshes and chimney stacks dotted all around. Having said all that I thought it did a job and whilst the cuisine was no frills my unsophisticated palate preferred it to PL and the prices were reasonable. Let’s not get too hopefully as we have Rovers next week and not only do they look like the stuff of nightmares but I suspect they will cause some for us. Overall though I think we have a realistic chance of staying up and I think we are beginning to look like we deserve to (which is not really the standard I was looking for but we are where we are).
