Fair enough.......
Olympic stadium will have a track running around it.....so that's a minimum of 12 meters between the fron row of seats and the action.
Twickenham, like it or not, is only 3 miles away from Griffin Park and therefore, West London RL has benefited from the presence of a SL team for 10 years...are you suggesting we undo all that and start again on the other side of town with little or no League activity to build on?
Landlords? How do you think we will be treated on the greater scheme of things by the landlords at the Olympic Stadium? I know that Mr Evans and the Union lot have lost some of their initial enthusiasm for us, but we still get a cracking purpose built RUGBY stadium to play in, with a big bar (will the olympc stadium have that for us oiks or only the corporates) to party in after the game. One of the best match day experienced according to our friends in the north by the way.

tube links, publicity, own identity away from the harlequins brand which in my opinion hasnt worked.the brand is so ru we are lost in it.how many people would think rl when they hear harlequins.gutterfax said about losing 10 years of a league presence in west london,it aint done us at lot of good has it. where are the fans, investment, publicity. i just think we need a new start with our own identity ,olympic stadium comes available, why not try to.........do you know what i give up,ive realised it will get the same problems wherever we go.PEOPLE AINT INTERESTED IN LEAGUE IN LONDON just stay where we are with the faithful few watching......there i feel better ive got that off my chest.

I can see what you are saying, and I realise this is obviously a hypothetical discussion, but the RU teams could play anywhere and draw a crowd. I think our current location is perfect, with only one professional RL team in the South, we have to represent and draw from London as best we can. The prospect of a day out in Wycombe, Reading or Watford hardly inspires me tbh.

The RU clubs werent drawing decent crowds. W*sps have doubled their attendance since Loftus Road. Better stadium deals, less competition for fans, less competition for sponsors and media. If we can make it in London than Im happy, like you Id rather go to the Stoop than Oxford or MK, but whatevers best for the club Im happy with. Olympic Stadium seems like a terrible idea to me, too big, athletics track, *rse end of London, miles from our development hotbed.

Surely one of our 2500 fans has a few million quid spare to make it work??

4k each should do it....nice little war chest there 8).

Come to think of it, Standing order for around £100 a month over 3 years from 2,500 and there you have it.....£9,000,000...more than enough to buy IL out. Elected board of 7, full ballot of every shareholder....ease the pressure on Mr Hughes and every penny accounted for by the board. If anything, it would stop the £1,500,000 loss every year if the board were given live rolling accounts updates on a monthly basis.

Each shareholder would get a box for 1 game each season for 19 guests....that would add 5k to the seasons average 8) immediately.
The board would have no say in player acquisition, but would offer guidence on how much a player should get in respect of the cap and the finances of the club.

ALL backoffice staff would have to re-apply for their jobs, be given KPI's and be expected to meet them. (Don't fret...I wouldn't apply 8) )

Shares (1/2500) with a starting value of £3,600 could be sold privately, so IF the club was to start to turn the corner and become self sufficient and IF a wealthy backer were to come in, I would suspect the investors would get their money back at the very least........

If you wanted to price qualify this little pipe-dream...£3.30 a day is all it would cost you.......that's less than the cost of a pint in most London Pubs.
....oh well, I suppose I can dream

Re: Olympic Stadium : Tue Jun 01, 2010 11:00 am
Harlequins/Broncos/Quins etc will never work IMHO. The club has been running in one form or another for 30 years and has been nomadic throughout then, never really settling in one place for too long or with one name.

Look at The Skolars. They've played in Tottenham for the majority of their existance and have made links with schools in the area and have produced a number of mini's teams in the surrounding areas and have seen the benefit of having a base to work from due to the amount of London born players that have come through the clubs ranks.

You all go on about the attendances at Quins now but maybe fans have gone off the club due to the men upstairs? Every couple of years the club seemed to be changing name or changing home ground and I'm sure, once loyal followers have stopped going to the club due to the distance they have to travel.

A Super League team in London is difficult because technically they have millions of people to aim at but yet get such a minor percentage through the gates. You look at the northern teams and I would say that the vast majority live in the town of the club and were born there whereas London is huge compared to say Castleford, Wakefield or Widnes.

I'd like to see a London Super League team thrive but sadly, under the Harlequins guise I see this failing. Its the identity of a RU team and always will be, QRL or any other London Super League team need their own identity that they've buil themselves, not borrowed/stolen from a RU mob based in spitting distance from the Kick 'n' Clap Church. In an ideal world, a RL fanatic with money would get together a good set of staff and marketing people and make a London team (that includes the title London). Looking at the grounds in London, they're all mainly football stadia. You have Crystal Palace, QPR, Brentford, Charlton, Leyton Orient and Barnet too choose from plus the Olympic Stadium. The ideal base would be QPR (*waits for everyone to go mad about leg room*), Charlton or Leyton Orient. They all have decent travel links, are close to Central London & the West End and are decent sized grounds.

So instead of being second fiddle to an RU team we would be the inferior partner of a football club......oh what short memories some people have. I wish people would drop this argument of moving on and sharing a football stadium as it`s been tried before and does not work. What happens is each year we get kicked out for about 8 weeks during the peak summer period and have to play `on the road`, while the football club insist that the pitch be re-seeded before their start to the season.........it kills any support for RL stone dead. We have a great ground at the Stoop with great facilities which all the visiting teams/supporters enjoy. Whilst there is no denying that building crowds is a problem (all bar the top teams are experiencing similar difficulties) it would be madness to move on and start from scratch again.
