Out & about with Broncos : Sat Jan 27, 2024 2:10 pm
I see we sent our Aussie players to Clapham to try & drum up some business from their country folk. As we all know, we've tried that before with little success when we had much better known Aussies at the club. Better than nothing though I suppose.

Interestingly, as I dragged my weary carcass up Wimbledon Broadway, outside the New Wimbledon Theatre were Buck, Dusty & Jake. Lord knows why as there is little footfall there compared with up by Centre Court Shopping Centre (now Wimbledon Quarter as most of the shops have closed in favour of rock climbing, golf & a big gym). They weren't making much effort to engage with the odd passer by, just waiving a flyer in their general direction. Oh well.

I’m glad to hear they gave it a go. Sad to hear they were ill located. Maybe they’ll take up your suggestion or they could try Tooting which is probably equidistant from the ground in the other direction and is always very busy. Maybe AFC could advise where their local fans generally come from and give that a go. I suspect the majority of AFCs fans no more come from Wimbledon itself than Spurs’ come fromTottenham.

In fairness DC they’ve put it up on x now and they were attending a local event Merton Live which is exactly what they should be doing. Sometimes they work, sometimes not. My beef would be where we failed to engage in opportunities eg not turning up to AFC’s open day/fete thing in years past. This may or may not have worked in drumming up support but if we don’t get out there we’re dead in the water so it’s a positive for me.
On a side issue where the fxxx are my season ticket and replica shirt. Season starts in five minutes!

The expression as usual is halved @r53d.
When the club are "advised" they push back and when they try to do something themselves without professional help, they get around to doing things like Oyster Card Holders at Canary Wharf or pointless above the line adverts at an England game 3 months before the season starts, hosting networking meetings dressed like they're auditioning for the part of a tramp in a music video or giving away shirt space to "sponsors" who do little other than their basic offering (or worse = Key & Eagle).
The current video genius partner is simply sprucing up the message that the audience who see it are already bought into.....
As for Buck and Dusty handing out flyers or Aussies trying to attract ANZAC fans.....this is 20+ years too late.
I've just finished watching the Union fluff thing on Netflix and whilst it's insane garbage with nothing new in it, it shows how far we've got to go as a sport in general in the UK to stand a chance of getting any bigger. And without the central government of the sport and IMG driving that in the capital, then it's pointless, because all that's currently happening with IMG etc is a larger version of the Broncos flogging gold tickets to existing fans.....or does anyone believe the sell out WCC will be attended by curious newbies and not die hard RL tragics?
Like everything, it starts and ends with Hughes and Loubser's inability to engage in meaningful business partnerships. Can anyone list the main shirt sponsors we've had since Gus stole Selco from London RL? I mean ones that paid, not partners!
