I don’t mind them being in SL because I like Ken Davy and applaud him putting the money in year after year even though the crowds are low. I wonder what has happened I know they had their purple patch around the time Danny Brought was there finishing in the top 4, have fans dropped off with them always coming up short? I do hope they could turn it around and bring fans through the door as they have good foundations; decent stadium, decent squad, owner willing to invest
Ken Davy seems like a decent bloke and it's commendable how he's stuck with them. I don't think however, that he's had a positive impact on RL.
Yeah they are a well run club (even tho they make huge losses), but there has to be more than that. RL, imo, is also about passion & atmosphere and Hudds don't bring either to the table. Yeah, they can sign the occasional big name, but when fans look at the fixture list, they know Hudds at home is going to be a dull affair. Even teams like Cas, Wakey, Salford etc, who haven't been as consistent as Hudds, get home fans more excited.
Also, they've been in the league what, 20+ years now? I can name 5 - 10 players of note that they've produced in that time. It's not good enough. They are the epitomy of teams that leech off the likes of us, Saints & Leeds. Let us do the real hard work developing. Let us bring away fans to swell your attendances or cup finals (don't get me started on the 22 CC Final). Let us put shows on like last week, or Good Friday and keep the TV exec's even half interested in the sport.
Apart from an owner who loves his team, what do they bring to the table?
