DW to turn blue : Wed Aug 18, 2021 11:50 am
The new owners of the Latics have announced all seats within the stadium will be blue or white.
Is this an indication of further changes still to be announced?

I stated on a previous post that there has been very little communications from either the football club or us on how the new relationship is developing. I am worried that behind the scenes things are not great between the two parties and that no news probably means bad news.

I hope that I am wrong but I've got bad vibes on this at the moment and cant help thinking that the current relationship could have some links as to why IL hasn't been more vocal of late.

Just a really pathetic move by the new Latics chairman. He seems desperate to be popular and to be seen as a saviour of the club and talks about wanting unity between the fan bases and then in the same breath announces this. I’m not sure other than popularity what he thinks he gains. I’m a fan of both clubs and it’s enraged me. I’ll be sticking to watching Latics away from home only if it goes through. It’s grated on me for years the attitudes of ‘some’ Latics and Rugby supporters but come a time when an owner/chairman starts pouring petrol on it to win a popularity contest, I’ll vote with my feet at either club.

I’m not from Wigan but wouldn’t both clubs benefit from unity between both clubs?

Both have a similar size support base (which is less than half the capacity of the stadium). Latics got 8600 last night around 10,000 for their first home game (no idea how many away supporters)

If there was less animosity and more fans going to watch both supporting the town, both clubs would benefit.

It’s pathetic what he’s proposing and is playing up to the loud minority. I know loads of people who support both clubs or at least support one and wish the other well and things like this do nothing but divide people. I’ve got mates who are Latics fans, who might turn up to a Grand Final as a one off or a big semi and I know others who support the rugby but came to the FA cup semis and finals for example. I doubt the latter would bother going forward and the bad feeling will spread.

I think the terms have been so favourable in the rent we pay that the new Latics ownership don’t see the value having a tenant probably has, particularly when it’s for about 15 days a year which is what it boils down to.

This is my biggest worry i.e. the rent we pay.

I haven't got a clue what we pay and how "secure" the terms are but I suspect the rent we pay is probably way below the market value.
The Council have some form of legal input which could be a route for the club if the new owners are looking to substantially hike the rent but again I no clear idea what levers the Council can pull if the new owners try to force through a a significant increase in the rent.

A potential big increase in rent, COVID and declining attendances each on their own are major issues for the club and collectively potentially catastrophic. I just hope that Danson is willing to put his hand in his pocket and give a huge cash inflow to help resolve these issues.

He was in my street having photos taken with fans who live a few doors down from me.
As you say sounds like he stoking up support before perhaps some news on the relationship between the clubs hits the local media.

People have said this for years, but it won't happen.

You only needed to look at Twitter when Latics were facing being wound up. Within half a day, it was all our fault.

That kind of irrational hatred leaves no door open.

It's a level of mutual dislike that seems to flare up into open war at the slightest thing. This new guy could be forgiven for not understanding that when he first arrived here, but he should have taken advice before pouring fuel on the fire.

Not sure how long he'll last as Latics CO, but at least half the town will now be counting down the days.

Heard a rumour hope its not true the Latics want to make a large increase in the rent and IL has said he will move us to the Reebock.

If it means getting new seats and a bit of investment in the stadium, I couldn't care less what colour they were.
