Never know though, by the sounds of it the club were aware of McKinnon going back for a while. Maybe just delayed the news until we got his replacement?

The Wigan fans seem to rate this lad, so he could be a good stand-in until PG sorts out something permanent for next season.

Might be permanent if he feels he will struggle to get into wigans team, because of Tompkins.

But the consensus is that they may push Tomkins back into the halves next year with Tommy going and potentially Finch, with Russell slotting in at FB

Be surprised to see Tompkins moved from fb, he has looked too good there, the space he gets there seems to suit his game.

Before we talk about Russell and next year, I have it from a good source that a few NRL clubs (for their toyota cup teams) are interested in him, and in fact he could have made the switch before the start of this season but chose to stay.

Not a chance. Russell has an awful lot of improving to do in many of the key areas for a full back, such as positional play, defence and dealing with kicks before he gets anywhere near being the starting full back at Wigan. Hopefully this loan move will be just the experience he needs to improve.
