Did we get the hair dryer treatment when he wasnt captain last year. No they all stood around under the sticks looking like deaf mutes!

They are proffesionals, they should not need someone to lead them, they should all lead by example! The only reason you need a captain, is to toss the coin and speak to the ref!

It is more to do with culture at the club, and looking at the players body language a lot of the time shows a certain amount of cant be arsed attitude.

All wakefield did was play hard and do the basics! We on the other hand did neither.

How is changing the captain going to stop coley dropping the ball, or get bailey to break a tackle (just once will do in his stay at wigan) and get goulding to pass, or instill some bottle into mathers?

Each player is responsible for his own performance and im sure at the start of the season, they have some key performance indicators that they have to achieve!

Well said

I admit that I was not Lockers biggest fan 6 years or so ago, I thought he did a lot of stupid things in some games and dropped a lot of ball, ok in some games he may still drop a couple but he really has come on in leaps and bounds imo.

Exactly, he is actually one of our better players. Far better than our mediocre aussies like Bailey and Carmont. Just because people have a grudge over him doesnt mean he's a bad player! However, average players like Bailey and Carmont etc. can do nothing wrong! i can think of games where Lockers has stood out, where i couldnt for Bailey or Carmont

A purple patch inspired on his home ground by man of the match WIGAN CAPTAIN Sean O’Loughlin produced three tries in an eight-minute spell just before half-time, and the GB Lions added two more after the break to maintain Smith’s 100 per cent record as Great Britain
coach.

Sat 27th April 2002 St Helens 12 Wigan 21 Edinburgh - Sat 4th May 2002 Celtic 2 Rangers 3 Glasgow (Carlsberg dont do weeks, but if they did.....)

I think they should remove the captaincy from sean oloughlin, Sean is a cracking player on his day, but has no leadership on the pitch. To the likes of all past wigan captains. Instead whenever someone scores a try he stands behind the post with his hands on his hips. No control of the wigan team what so ever. Other wigan captains laid into the team when ever they did anything wrong. At the end of last season when barrett was captain wigan did a lot better because he was talking to them all of the time. Sean then would be able to work on his own game then.
You cannot take anything away from wakefield how well they played today with 8 first team players out, but why does sam tomkins not get a start?

To be honest, It doesn't really matter whether or not he's the captain does it - Being the captain means nothing anymore. Barrett was the captain when he was there - He just wasn't given the title. Just like Riddell or Smith will probably be this year, they'll be giving the orders etc. Regardless of them being captain - I'll admit, it's crap, but that's how it is.

So why then have a captain at all?

Even Ian Lenagan himself identified that leadership was an issue last season after the Huddersfield game and its clearly been an issue for many years now but nothing seems to have been done about it.

I dont think anybody is blaming Sean O'Loughlin for the games we have lost but a lack of leadership has already been identfied as a problem not only by the supporters but also by the chairman.

There is a lot more to being a captain than just tossing a coin.

Sorry lockers has had his time as captain. 1985 last time since wigan had a poor start like this, lost 3 in a row. Next up harlequins, bradford, leeds, salford.

It is a hard pill to swallow but unbelievably true.
