With all due respect to Hughes and Thornley who i think both have long term futures at Wigan but just not as centres. Both are big lads, almost in the Keith Senior mold but i don't think either of them have that little bit extra to their game that Senior had.
I can't say I've been particularly impressed with Sarginson at centre. He's got decent pace and footwork but little physical presence, weak defence and just doesn't seem to have a centres instincts.
Thornley is a natural centre and is showing a lot of potential. His attacking play is strong and it's an aspect of his game that is improving. For the vast majority of the time Thornley's defence is also excellent - he just seems to have bad lapses which are disappointing but hardly a huge concern right now. Goulding used to struggle in defence but look at him now. Watkins, Atkins - both have defensive weaknesses.
