SW was very coy when asked by Eddie after the Widnes game whether he was going to New Zealand next year. He basically waffled on and changed the subject like a typical politician! Then on Superleague Backchat last night there seemed a general consensus that Sam was going to NZ and Wane would be joining him. Lots of banter about Sam's mum and Wane's wife visiting to go househunting. Yet Sam denied he had signed anything a couple of days ago!
Maybe they are waiting so it can all be announced together with news of a couple of big signings for Wigan.
Interesting about Harris and Deacon - at the end of the day Wigan's excellent and entertaining performances by the backs is probably more down to them than SW.

All Sam said was he hasn't signed anything with anyone. He didn't deny he was looking at going for next year, he also didn't deny he is in discussions with anyone. Coupled with Wane's refusal to comment I fear we will be loosing both at the end of the year.

If you don't bother to go to the game when you live in the locality then you are not really a fan and therefore your views are invalid. It's simple.

Both were suitably vague, to allow everybody to come to their own conclusion...

Well the quotes from here read more positive than that:

http://www1.skysports.com/rugby-league/news/15314/8770205/Super-League-Wigan-and-England-full-back-Sam-Tomkins-dismisses-NRL

"There are rumours everywhere," said the 24-year-old. "Everyone seems to have an opinion on where I'm going apart from me.

"I can tell you I've not signed any contract with anyone. I'm a Wigan player for the next couple of years as it stands and, if anything was to change, I'd be completely open about it.

"I am not hiding anything, I've not signed anywhere, it's speculation.

"From my point of view, I'm concentrating on playing for England and for Wigan and, if that was to change, I'd be the first to put my hand up and tell everyone."

Now OK we all know it could change but he'd look a bit of an idiot if NZ Warriors announced his signature at the end of the season as we all know these things don't happen overnight. And before anyone says it I don't think he is being economical with the truth. The way people read between the lines sometimes is IMO unwarranted. Our players and coaches are not legal eagles whose every quote is carefully crafted so they can later say "I never said I wasn't in negotiations, just they I hadn't signed a contract" or such like.

They might not be 'legal eagles' as you put it but they are trained to deal with the press. For the most part they, or at least the press relations people are smart enough to know what questions will be asked in advance a will prepare politicians answers.

I'm not saying Sam or Wane are going anywhere, what I an saying it was certainly not denied.

And where is your evidence for that? In fact I'd say given the way Wane quite often puts his foot in it with the press the evidence says there is no such training.

This is exactly what I am on about. The implication is because they didn't deny it, it is happening. When a player comes out with the statements Sam did that would imply a level of deviousness and spin Alastair Campbell would be proud of.

There is also a difference between sitting in front of the press at a carefully prepared news conference such as the one when the fact Mossop and Hock were leaving was announced (spin overload there) compared to having to think on your feat when asked a simple question. The players aren't politicians and probably don't even think they need to go to the lengths of covering every angle to get the point across.

Sam can't talk to other clubs and has said he reckons he will be a Wigan player for the next couple of years. To say that when he was in fact party to negotiations (which he'd have to be) to go to NZ flies in the face of "I'm not hiding anything".

This move would need to be initiated by the club as sam cannot speak to anyone for another year

If the club is initiating discussions then love them

Any club can make an offer for him, Wigan do not have to be the ones making the first move but ultimately they are the ones who will decide if he stays or goes

San can decide whether he stays or goes if he has a five year deal.
Only on the expiry of the deal can Wigan say "Goodbye".

Or other clubs could bid but the point I was making was those quotes from Sam suggest neither is the case despite not using the binding legally testable English some seem to require.

All I am saying is that I didn't agree with the OP that Sam's assertion that he hasn't yet signed for another club means he will be here for the foreseeable future. Who mentioned or criticised the nature of his comment from a legal standpoint? No-one as far as I can see.

EDIT
Am I mixing my threads? Apologies if so
